‘Crystal Lake’ Prequel Series Begins Pre-Production, Bringing Jason Back After 16 Years
Fans of the Friday the 13th movies have something big to look forward to! After many years of waiting, legal issues, and behind-the-scenes problems, the horror franchise is finally coming back. A new prequel series called “Crystal Lake” is now in pre-production.
Sixteen years have passed since the last Friday the 13th movie. Now, the franchise is returning in the form of a streaming series on Peacock, produced by A24. The show is being created by Brad Caleb Kane, who is known for working on Welcome to Derry, the upcoming It prequel series.
Kane shared an exciting update on Instagram. He posted a picture of the draft script for Crystal Lake and revealed that the production office is officially open. That means the team is now getting everything ready to start filming soon.
Crystal Lake Production offices are live. It’s all happening. MACHETES FOR EVERYONE!
The script Kane shared was written by him and is based on characters created by Victor Miller, the original writer of Friday the 13th (1980). The copyright is listed under “Camp Blood LLC,” a fun nod to the name fans often use for the deadly summer camp in the films.
Linda Cardellini has been cast as Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason Voorhees. In the series, her character is described as a woman who gave up her dream of becoming a singer to take care of her son with special needs. After losing him, she goes down a dark and terrifying path.
The show is being described as an “expanded prequel” to the Friday the 13th franchise. That means it will explore the story before the original movie and show more about both Jason and his mother Pamela, giving fans a deeper look into their history.
This series is exciting news for horror lovers, especially after Jason Voorhees has been missing from screens for over a decade and a half. With a strong team behind it, a powerful lead actress, and a fresh take on the classic slasher tale, Crystal Lake is already shaping up to be a must-watch.
