‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Just Topped Disney+’s Charts, but the Numbers Tell a Complicated Story

Streaming success stories rarely come without some fine print attached these days, and Marvel’s most acclaimed Disney+ series is proving to be a perfect example of that complexity. Depending on which numbers you look at, ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ is either having its best year yet or quietly struggling to hold onto its audience.

The show returned for its second season back in March, picking up with Wilson Fisk now serving as Mayor of New York while Matt Murdock continues his shadow war against Fisk’s growing empire. Critics have responded warmly, but the early weeks of the season told a much rockier viewership story than fans might have expected.

Now new data has flipped that narrative on its head. According to Luminate figures shared by media analyst Tyler Aquilina, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 was the most-streamed Disney+ original series in the U.S. for the first half of 2026, racking up 2.3 billion total minutes streamed between January and June.

That total puts the show ahead of several other high-profile Disney+ originals during the same stretch, including ‘Wonder Man’ at 1.9 billion minutes, ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 2 at 1.8 billion, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 1 at 1.3 billion, and ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ at 1.1 billion. On paper, that’s a dominant showing for Marvel’s street-level corner of the MCU.

There’s a significant catch, though. Despite topping Luminate’s minutes-streamed rankings, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has never once cracked Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 chart for original streaming series, across either of its two seasons. Both companies track streaming performance differently, which means a show can dominate one metric while remaining invisible on another.

That disconnect becomes even more interesting given how Season 2’s early weeks actually performed. Reporting from April, based on the first five episodes, showed total views down 46 percent and total hours watched down 54 percent compared to the same point in Season 1’s run, a decline steep enough to raise real questions about the show’s trajectory going forward.

Season 1’s numbers had been boosted by a two-episode premiere, while Season 2 launched with a single episode, contributing to some of that early gap. Still, the eventual cumulative total suggests the show’s audience either grew significantly as the season progressed or simply logged enough total watch time across its full eight-episode run to outpace its early deficit.

While the viewership numbers have told a mixed story, critical reception has remained steady and positive throughout. Season 2 currently holds a 90 percent critics score and an 88 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, both improvements over Season 1’s already strong reception.

That consistency in quality, even amid fluctuating audience metrics, has helped keep ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ positioned as one of Marvel’s more consistently praised Disney+ offerings, regardless of which streaming data set observers choose to highlight.

With Season 3 already confirmed and actively filming, the show’s momentum heading into its next chapter appears secure regardless of the conflicting numbers. Set photos from production have confirmed Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter filming together, all but guaranteeing a full Defenders reunion bringing Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones together on screen once again.

Whatever the true picture of Season 2’s actual audience turns out to be, Marvel clearly isn’t hedging on the franchise’s future. Between strong critical marks and now a chart-topping minutes total from Luminate, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has plenty of ammunition to support continued investment, even if Nielsen’s numbers tell a noticeably different story.
