‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Writer Nearly Uncovered Shocking MCU Secret to Vincent D’Onofrio: “What is going on”

Vincent D’Onofrio is widely recognized for his role as Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil and the MCU’s Echo. Fans are eagerly anticipating his appearance in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again and the future storylines in which he will be involved.

Over the past year, many hints have been dropped regarding Kingpin, and given the character’s complexities and D’Onofrio’s powerful performance, it’s easy to envision him emerging as one of the most formidable villains in the MCU, even without superpowers.

At New York Comic Con 2024, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio spoke with Screen Rant, and the conversation quickly turned to potential future storylines for Daredevil and Kingpin.

Vincent D’Onofrio shared that, aside from their own character arcs, the studio almost never discloses details about broader plotlines, likely to reduce the risk of spoilers.

When asked if he could see himself playing a Thanos-like villain for street-level heroes like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Spider-Man, D’Onofrio expressed enthusiasm for the idea but also mentioned that one of the Daredevil: Born Again writers nearly revealed a major MCU secret to him.

Yeah, I mean all of them. Bring them on. It’s interesting – listening to Charlie’s answers, he’s so spot on. One of the most interesting things about being in the MCU with these characters is we know so little about what the plan is.

I know that might sound strange to people, but it’s really true. Just the other day, we were in a conversation with our writers, and one of them slipped and said something, and one of the bosses was on the Zoom.

I was like, “What?” [laughs] and they were both like, “What?” This particular boss who cares for the show a lot actually was like, “Nope, can’t talk about that now.” [I am like] “Can’t talk about what? What is going on.”

If you want to know immediately, could it seem like something that had to do with something beyond our show? I don’t know. I literally have no idea.

We don’t know much about Kingpin’s role in Daredevil: Born Again, aside from what set leaks have revealed. It has been confirmed that he will become the Mayor and will be involved with an anti-vigilante task force aimed at eliminating vigilantism from the streets of New York.

Before Robert Downey Jr. was announced as the MCU’s Doctor Doom, Kingpin was reportedly slated to be one of the villains in Spider-Man 4, which was intended to focus on a street-level storyline.
