DCEU’s Shazam, Zachary Levi, Faces Backlash from Fans After Endorsing Trump: “Well his career is done”
For most of our readers, Zachary Levi is best known for his role as Shazam in the DCEU. The first film was a hit with both critics and audiences, proving profitable despite featuring a lesser-known character.
However, the sequel was widely criticized and became a significant financial loss for the studio. Several factors likely contributed to its failure, including the fact that fans knew the movie wouldn’t lead anywhere, as the DCEU was already being phased out by that time.
After the release of ‘Shazam 2,’ Zachary Levi stirred controversy by suggesting that James Gunn is a nepotist, pointing out Gunn’s frequent casting of his brother, Sean Gunn. With Levi unlikely to reprise his role in the newly revamped DCU, this frustration may have been a factor. His most recent film, ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon,’ also performed poorly at the box office.
Levi is once again in the spotlight, but not for his film career—he’s facing online backlash for endorsing Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. In 2023, he also courted controversy by agreeing with a tweet critical of Pfizer, which was viewed as anti-vaccine sentiment.
Additionally, he was criticized for following Gays Against Groomers, a far-right, anti-LGBT group, and has previously praised Jordan Peterson, initially endorsing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before switching his support to Trump after Kennedy withdrew from the race.
But the thing I wanted to say, and this is to Bobby’s point, we are, and you all know this, we are being inundated every single day with poison. Not just in the foods that we’re eating and not just in the pharmaceuticals that are being shoved down our throats, in the images that we are looking at, the audio that we are hearing through our media. We are being poisoned and lied to.
There is evil at the top of that food chain. But the American people that believe that Kamala is the way, they are not evil people. They have been lied to and they have eaten that lie and it is in them. So to the best that we can to, maybe practice grace, may we practice forgiveness.
While Levi is entitled to his political views and is free to endorse whoever he chooses, many fans strongly disagree with his stance.
In addition to ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon,’ Levi is also working on two upcoming films: ‘The Unbreakable Boy’ and ‘Not Without Hope.’
