DCU’s ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns’ Might Start Production in 2025 According to Most Recent Reports

When Gunn & Safran assumed roles as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studio, they declared a complete revamp of the old DCEU and revealed numerous projects, including live-action films, TV series, and animations.

While some projects like ‘Superman’ set for a 2025 release and ‘Creature Commandos’ are in production, details on others remain scarce, with occasional rumors and leaks hinting at casting or plot points. Among the highly anticipated shows were ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns,’ and we’re excited to share some updates on them.

Production Weekly reports that both ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns’ are set to begin production in 2025.

Originally, ‘Lanterns’ was conceived as Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern Corps film within the DCEU, slated for a late 2019 release. However, plans shifted with the announcement in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, indicating a change in direction. Efforts have been made to distance the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to attract viewers uninterested in its lower-budget productions. Afterward, there was no news about the show until it was disclosed that it would be developed as a “cosmic detective” story for DCU.

In the upcoming show, three notable Green Lanterns will make appearances: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. Nathan Fillion is confirmed to portray Guy Gardner, but the casting for John Stewart is still unknown.

Regarding ‘Booster Gold,’ its development history surpasses that of ‘Lanterns.’ In November 2011, Syfy ordered a television series based on Booster Gold, developed by Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. Despite Kreisberg submitting a script in June 2013, the project never came to fruition. On January 31, 2023, James Gunn announced the first part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which featured Booster Gold among the projects. This sums up what we currently know about the show.
