‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Could Be Setting Up a New Avengers with a Grim Future Ahead

Even before ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ hit theaters, Kevin Feige stated that this film marks the beginning of the mutant era in the MCU. The movie indeed delivers on this promise, referencing both mutants and the X-Men in a way that hasn’t been done before in this cinematic universe.

So, what does this mean for the MCU’s future? If our theory holds true, it suggests a grim outcome: by the end of ‘Secret Wars,’ only the X-Men may be left standing.

If you want to avoid spoilers for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ I suggest you stop reading now!

Throughout the film, it’s revealed that Deadpool’s reality is on the brink of destruction due to the death of the “anchor being” in his Earth-10005 universe. This anchor was Wolverine, who perished in the events of ‘Logan’ (2017). Although Deadpool’s reality has endured for about 1,000 years, Mr. Paradox is unwilling to wait that long. He attempts to use the Timeripper to expedite the destruction of Deadpool’s universe. To prevent Deadpool from interfering, Mr. Paradox plans to send him to the MCU reality, where he claims Deadpool will join the Avengers.

Desperate to save his loved ones from oblivion, Deadpool manages to retrieve an alternate version of Wolverine. However, Mr. Paradox dismisses Deadpool’s plea and exiles both him and Wolverine to the Void, a Multiversal junkyard.

In short, by the end of the movie, Deadpool and Wolverine successfully prevent the Timeripper from destroying their reality and manage to miraculously rejuvenate Earth-10005. Rather than facing a “natural” death, the universe now thrives.

This means that the Fox X-Men universe remains intact within Earth-10005, preserving all the beloved mutants, Deadpool, and Wolverine.

So, if the mutants and X-Men are safely residing in Earth-10005, why might they appear in the MCU? The answer lies in incursions. Incursions, which were hinted at in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and ‘The Marvels,’ could be the key to their crossover into the MCU.

This phenomenon occurs when two realities collide, causing their borders to dissolve. During this process, either one or both realities may be destroyed. The more space-time is manipulated, the more frequent these incursions become. Recent MCU projects have frequently explored themes of space-time manipulation, from Kang the Conqueror’s interference to Loki breaking the timeline and forging his own path.

Given this context, it’s evident that incursions are likely to escalate. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ might be just the beginning of adapting the ‘Time Runs Out’ storyline from Marvel. This storyline could lead to a dramatic clash between Earth-10005 and Earth-616, resulting in a fierce battle for survival between the Avengers and the X-Men.

As in the storyline, everything will naturally build up to ‘Secret Wars.’

‘Time Runs Out’ concludes with ‘Secret Wars,’ an event that resets the Marvel multiverse. Orchestrated by Doctor Doom and involving the surviving fragments of various universes, this event led to the creation of a new Marvel Universe.

There have been longstanding rumors that ‘Secret Wars’ will reboot the MCU, leaving only the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the new continuity. This could potentially mean bidding farewell to the Avengers, possibly for good.
