‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Poised to Break Records with Highest-Grossing R-Rated Opening of All Time

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be one of the most significant movies of the summer. It marks Deadpool’s debut in the MCU and represents the studio’s effort to address issues that have plagued their productions in recent years.
A recent list of 2023 box office failures placed Disney at the top, as it marked the first time in many years that the major media company lacked a billion-dollar hit. The Marvels proved to be a disastrous release for Disney, leading to substantial financial losses.
All eyes are on Deadpool & Wolverine, with BoxOffice Pro’s latest projections suggesting it will be the highest-grossing film of 2024. The domestic opening weekend is estimated to range between $250M and $300M.
The positive box office outlook for Deadpool & Wolverine was first indicated by record-breaking presales. Current early projections confidently predict that the film will set a new record for the largest R-rated opening, surpassing the original Deadpool‘s record. Earlier projections, as reported by Deadline, had estimated the film’s opening at $200M-$239M.
Experts predict that this will be the biggest R-rated opener ever, surpassing the $132.4M earned by 2016’s Deadpool and the $125.5M of Deadpool 2. Given that both previous Deadpool films grossed over $780M worldwide, this new installment is expected to perform well throughout the summer.
The movie has already premiered internationally with extremely positive audience reactions. However, the critics’ score was surprisingly less favorable compared to the audience’s enthusiasm.
