Deleted Scene from ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Reveals a Better Love Interest for Wolverine than Jean Grey

Wolverine and Jean Grey are one of the most notable “couples” in the comics—or rather, Wolverine is part of a love triangle with Jean and Cyclops. Their relationship is often depicted as complex and tumultuous due to various factors.

Jean and Cyclops have a long-standing but often messy romantic relationship, while Jean and Wolverine frequently flirt, and in some storylines, they even become romantically involved and have children. Wolverine’s troubled past, violent nature, and struggles with his inner demons make it challenging for him to sustain stable relationships. As a telepath, Jean is acutely aware of Wolverine’s thoughts and emotions, which adds another layer of complexity to their dynamic.

While the comics currently suggest that Wolverine and Cyclops are involved in some sort of unconventional polyamorous relationship, Wolverine’s live-action portrayals have consistently focused on the safer, more popular angle of his unrequited love for Jean Grey.

The X-Men movies followed this trend, but a deleted scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past hinted at a possible shift, teasing a potential romance between Wolverine and Storm.

Based on the events and interactions in X2, it would have made more narrative sense to explore this new relationship, especially since fans have long been shipping Wolverine and Storm. Many fans have voiced their curiosity and disappointment over why this scene was ultimately cut.

They fit so much better together than Logan and Jean anyway! Jean outright told Logan she wasn’t interested in X2 and that it was always going to be Scott for her. They should’ve started planting hints for Storm and him waaaay sooner but i’m glad we at least got this scene (even though it was deleted -___-)

More chemistry in one scene than Wolverine and Jean for a whole trilogy. Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry make an amazing couple lol.

I’m still so confused about why they deleted this! I would have made sense in the movie. Been waiting for Storm & Wolverine to get together since the 1st movie.

@CharCruse20

They have had flings and a on and off relationship in the comics for YEARS

There’s still an opportunity to bring Wolverine and Storm’s relationship to live-action in the upcoming X-Men reboot. This would be a great way to move away from the Wolverine-Jean Grey dynamic, especially since X-Men ’97 has also leaned into that trope.

Fans were eager to see Storm’s relationship with T’Challa in the MCU, but given Chadwick Boseman’s passing and the studio’s decision not to recast him, that storyline seems unlikely. So why not explore a romance between Wolverine and Storm instead?
