Descendants 4 Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Plot & More

Descendants is a Disney movie franchise created by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott. The franchise is set in the world of Disney animated classic movies, where each movie follows the lives of the teenage children of four Disney Villains who start their new life in the kingdom of Auradon at the request of the teenage son of Queen Belle and King Beast.

The first movie just titled Descendants came out in 2015, and it was a huge success. A sequel was green-lit immediately, and Descendants 2 came out in 2017, and then in 2019, Descendants 3 was released. On September 11, 2022, the fourth sequel was announced as Descendants 4. In this article, you will find everything we know about the fourth installment in the Descendants franchise!

Descendants 4 release date and trailer

In September 2021, Deadline Hollywood reported that two more Descendants movies were in the works by Disney. On May 10, 2022, Disney announced one of the two movies as Descendants: The Pocketwatch with Jennifer Phang attached to direct. The movie’s exact release date is still TBA, but we know filming will start in fall 2022, so we can expect a 2023 premiere on Disney+. There is still no teaser trailer or trailer to give us more information, but we still have many more details we know.

Descendants 4 cast

The original cast won’t be returning for Descendants 4

The Descendants franchise centered on Mal, played by Dove Cameron, daughter of Maleficent, as she tries to abandon her mischievous ways to win the heart of Prince Ben, played by Mitchell Hope, son of Belle and the Beast. Her misfit friends help her; Carlos, the son of Cruella De Vil, played by the late Cameron Boyce; Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen, played by Sofia Carson; and Jay, the son of Jaffar, played by Booboo Stewart.

This was the main cast for all three movies, but since Cameron Boyce tragically passed away in 2019, the original cast decided not to return to the roles again. So, this new sequel will feature a new main cast, which was announced at D23 Expo. China Anne McClain will return as Uma, Ursula’s daughter, with new cast members Kylie Cantrall as Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Dara Renée will be Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.

These three girls will be the main cast in this new Alice in Wonderland-themed sequel. But, not to worry, some old cast members are set to appear, like Kristen Chenoweth as Maleficent, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, and Keegan Connor Tracy as Belle.

Descendants 4 plot

As the working title Descendants: The Pocketwatch suggests, the tale of Alice in Wonderland heavily inspires this movie. Now, all we know about the plot are the general outlines. Auradon, the magical kingdom the story is set in, is in danger.

An impending coup looms over the celebration of a new royal baby. To save Auradon, Red must team up with Chloe to travel back in time, with the help of the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.

This is all we know so far about Descendants 4, but one thing is for sure the movie will have great musical and dance numbers, as every movie in the franchise did. China Anne McClain, a Disney veteran, is more than capable of leading a franchise, and Dara Renée proved that she got it all in the Disney+ smash-hit TV show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

But, the announcement of new Descendant movies wasn’t met without criticism. Fans were surprised when they found out the franchise would go on without Cameron Boyce, but after the original cast members said they were happy to see Descendants go on without them, the negative chatter calmed down.

We will surely get a lot of promo in the coming months once the movie starts filming. Descendants 4 can be considered a soft reboot of the franchise, and we are excited to see what is to come next.
