Destin Daniel Cretton to Direct ‘Spider-Man 4’ as Filming Details Emerge
Spider-Man 4 is the next film in Spider-Man’s MCU series. Although it was confirmed to be in development last year, there have been few updates on the project’s progress.
The film was searching for a new director after Jon Watts stepped down to pursue other projects outside the MCU. Watts noted that replicating the success of No Way Home would be challenging, so he chose to exit on a high note.
For months, several names have been considered as potential directors for Spider-Man 4, including Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Hollywood Reporter now indicates that Cretton is in talks to direct the film.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will return as screenwriters, with Marvel’s Kevin Feige and former Sony head Amy Pascal producing. Although Tom Holland and Zendaya have not yet officially signed on, they have had extensive discussions with the executives, likely negotiating new terms.
Details about the film’s plot remain scarce, but industry insiders have suggested it could either be a street-level story or a multiversal adventure. Recent reports, influenced by the latest SDCC announcements and the new direction of the Avengers franchise, indicate that the film will likely continue the multiversal themes of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
No Way Home left Peter Parker in a challenging situation, with everyone, including MJ, having forgotten who he was.
Filming is expected to begin in early 2025. Have thoughts to share? Let us know in the comments below!
