‘Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback’ Film Smashes Franchise Opening-Day Record in Japan
The latest Detective Conan feature anime movie, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback, premiered in Japan on April 18, 2025 and has started its theatrical run. This is the 28th feature-length anime movie in the franchise.
Building on the success of the previous film, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram, which became the most lucrative in the franchise, as well as the highest-grossing Japanese film of 2024, the 16th highest-grossing Japanese film, and the 14th highest-grossing film released in Japan, expectations for this film have been very high.
And, based on the initial information we have from Japan, One-Eyed Flashback might just deliver and become another record-breaking hit for the franchise.
Based on the first numbers coming in from Japan, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback might be on the way to breaking another franchise record by surpassing The Million-Dollar Pentagram, although it is still too early to tell.
It has been confirmed that the movie earned 1.05 billion yen (about US$7.4 million) and sold 690,000 tickets on its first day, which is a new first-day record for the franchise. For comparison, the previous film earned 960 million yen (about US$6.26 million at the time) on its opening, and sold 2,274,333 tickets, earning 3,352,494,500 (about US$21.7 million) yen during the first weekend.
Now, the numbers we have are just for the first day, and we’ll have to wait until Monday to see if the movie broke the first-weekend record for the franchise. If that happens, then One-Eyed Flashback might, indeed, be on its way to setting another series of records in Japan, which would be amazing for the franchise as a whole!
