Directors of ‘X-Men ’97’ Discuss Directing Potential Live-Action Reboot: “I Love a Good Challenge”

‘X-Men ’97’ was a big hit for the studio, scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans and critics agreed it faithfully adapted the original ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ from the ’90s. With X-Men trending lately, fans are buzzing about the upcoming live-action reboot set to bring the team into the MCU.
After the huge success of episode 5, fans are urging Marvel Studios to bring back Beau DeMayo as a writer. Many believe his deep understanding of the team and dedication to their stories make him a perfect fit for the live-action reboot. Now, fans are also extending the invitation to the other showrunners.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura, directors of some X-Men ’97 season 1 episodes, were asked if they’d like to be part of the upcoming X-Men movie for the MCU. Even though there haven’t been any talks yet, they talked about their feelings on moving from animating X-Men to live-action, and their response was quite positive.
Chase Conley (Director of episodes 2, 4, 6): If that’s a call that we get, at some point, I’m gonna pick the phone up, for sure.
Emi Yonemura (Director of episodes 3, 5, 7, 9): I would never say no to that phone call because I love a good challenge, and I love trying new things.
Although fans are eager for the X-Men to join the MCU, recent rumors suggest a delay in their debut. According to Alex Perez in a recent Q&A, it might be a while before we see the notable team in action. Production Weekly also stated that ‘X-Men’ production is set for late 2025, confirming earlier reports. What do you think about this news? Share your thoughts below!
