Disney Named in Negligence Lawsuit Alleging It Ignored On-Set Abuse During 2001’s ‘The Proof Point’

Raquel Lee Boileau, who starred as a child actress in Disney Channel’s 2001 film ‘The Proof Point,’ has filed a negligence lawsuit against the Walt Disney Company alleging she was repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted, and sexually harassed while working on the film’s Utah set at age 14. The suit was filed August 21 in Los Angeles Superior Court through New York-based firm Wigdor LLP.

The complaint alleges an adult, middle-aged male Disney employee involved in filming the movie was responsible for the abuse, and that his conduct was “apparent to the adults on Disney’s set.” The filing argues Disney repeatedly failed to protect Boileau despite that visibility, stating bluntly that “Disney’s set was not safe for children.”

‘The Proof Point,’ which starred Mark Curry, Dawnn Lewis, Boileau, and Tahj Mowry as a family of scientists caught up in a time-travel plot, premiered on the Disney Channel on September 14, 2001. The lawsuit also claims Boileau, described in the filing as “visibly disheveled” at the time, was subjected to tirades from Disney executives over her performance during production.

The complaint goes beyond the specific allegations tied to ‘The Proof Point,’ invoking Harvey Weinstein by name as part of a broader argument about Disney’s institutional history. It states: “This is not the first time that Disney has enabled a sexual predator to target and abuse vulnerable victims. Disney has a longstanding and horrifying history of protecting sexual abusers that began well before 2001 and continued after 2001.”

Boileau, now in her late thirties, previously participated in the documentary ‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,’ which examined broader allegations of misconduct within children’s television production. The new suit seeks a jury trial and an unspecified monetary judgment against Disney.

This is not the only litigation to place Disney and Weinstein in the same legal filing. A separate 2024 lawsuit brought by an unidentified Toronto actress accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her in 2000 while she worked on a Miramax teen film, and named Disney, then Miramax’s corporate parent, as having been “willfully blind” to his conduct. Disney has also faced other, unrelated set-safety lawsuits in recent years, including a 2025 suit from former ‘Doctor Odyssey’ crew members alleging sexual harassment and retaliation.

Neither Deadline’s report nor other coverage of the filing indicates Disney has issued a public statement responding to Boileau’s specific allegations as of this writing. Given the serious nature of the claims, further legal proceedings and any company response are likely to be closely watched in the coming weeks.
