Disney’s D23 fan expo tends to deliver a steady stream of feel-good moments, from surprise reunions to career-spanning tributes for the people who have shaped the company’s legacy. This year’s event in Anaheim was no different, delivering plenty of spectacle for the thousands of fans who packed the convention center.

One of the weekend’s biggest traditions is the induction of new Disney Legends, the company’s own hall of fame honoring those who have made lasting contributions to its history. The 2026 class brought in eleven new honorees, spanning decades of film, television, and business leadership.

Among those named Disney Legends this year were Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Anne Hathaway, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and former Disney CEO Bob Iger. Notably absent from that list was Jim Cummings, the voice behind Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and more than 1,500 other characters across a career spanning over four decades.

Cummings has voiced Winnie the Pooh since 1988 and Tigger since 1989, making him the character’s longest-tenured performer by a wide margin. His resume extends well beyond the Hundred Acre Wood too, including Darkwing Duck, the Tasmanian Devil, Pete, and Star Wars’ Hondo Ohnaka, among a staggering catalog of roles built over his career.

That track record made his exclusion from this year’s Disney Legends class sting for plenty of fans, and Cummings himself didn’t stay quiet about it for long. He began by reposting fan complaints to his Instagram Stories, including one post reading, “The fact that The Rock, Bob Iger, Jonas Brothers, and Lin-Manuel Miranda get this before Jim Cummings is still baffling to me… Come on, Disney,” and another simply calling the decision “an absolute travesty.”

Cummings then took things a step further with a pointed video filmed around the Anaheim Convention Center during D23 itself. “Jim Cummings at D23. 40+ years. 1500+ characters. The voice of generations. No comment,” he wrote in the caption on Instagram, pairing the clip with Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.”

The choice of song did plenty of the talking for him, turning a seemingly simple caption into a pointed statement about being overlooked. It was a notably restrained way to express frustration, especially compared to the more direct criticism found in the posts he had reshared earlier that day.

The snub arrives at an otherwise strong moment in Cummings’ career. He appeared across three separate panels at D23 this year as a featured guest, and the appearance came shortly after he received an Inkpot Award at Comic-Con, a recognition given for contributions to the worlds of comics, science fiction, and fantasy.

That contrast has not gone unnoticed by fans following the situation. Being celebrated on stage throughout the weekend while missing out on Disney’s own hall of fame honor made the timing of the Legends announcement feel especially pointed to many longtime supporters of his work.

The Disney Legends program only inducts new members every two years, meaning Cummings and his supporters will have to wait until the next cycle for another chance at recognition. Whether this year’s very public reaction changes anything for future consideration remains to be seen.

For now, Cummings appears content to let his decades of work and a pointed music choice make his feelings clear rather than pursuing the issue any further. Given the reaction from fans across social media, he is far from alone in believing the recognition is overdue.

Do you think Jim Cummings deserves to be named a Disney Legend?
