Marvel’s campaign for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has made one thing clear: this is Doctor Doom’s movie. Robert Downey Jr.’s return as the iconic villain has been at the center of almost every promotional reveal, from character posters and premium format artwork to glowing popcorn buckets around the world.

The Russo brothers’ film brings together heroes from 3 universes as they head toward a collision with an existential threat. Its massive cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, and X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

The latest piece of artwork comes from Italy. A new international poster was displayed at Lucca Comics & Games, one of Europe’s biggest pop culture events, which runs from October 28 to November 1.

Doctor Doom’s Glowing Eyes Steal the Show in a New Look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Popcorn Buckets

The poster shows a hooded Doctor Doom towering over the scene in his metal mask, with a heavy chain across his chest. The Avengers logo sits in the top left corner, and the whole image is bathed in the eerie green glow that has defined the film’s marketing.

Below Doom, robotic figures fill the lower half of the frame, believed to be Sentinels, the mutant-hunting machines from X-Men lore. A glowing blade and bursts of green energy add to the sense of chaos.

The poster also carries an interesting detail. Its Italian text reads “Doomsday dal 16 dicembre al cinema,” meaning the film will reach Italian theaters on December 16, 2 days before its U.S. release on December 18.

Italy isn’t alone. Disney has confirmed that China will also get the film on December 16, and a Korean poster lists the same early date. Marvel hasn’t released a full global schedule yet, but the posters suggest many international markets will see the film before North American audiences.

The pairing of Doom with the Sentinels has fans speculating about the story. The image appears closely related to what may be the film’s first character poster, which showed Downey’s Doom standing tall with Sentinels looming behind him.

The marketing has consistently presented Doom as the ultimate threat rather than a potential ally to the heroes. The Sentinels’ presence also hints at how heavily the X-Men side of the story may feature.

Hot Toys has even announced a Sentinel figure with light-up eyes, showing just how central the robots appear to be to the film’s identity. The film’s numbers suggest the excitement is very real. Premium Infinity Vision tickets went on sale in July, and presales have reportedly passed $125 million.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will share its opening day with ‘Dune: Part Three’, a showdown fans have nicknamed “Dunesday.” Marvel’s final trailer is expected in mid-November, which could reveal even more about the story.

Earlier this month, a set of 25 posters and a “Team Doom” poster also surfaced online. The latter was described as the first MCU theatrical poster to feature characters who hadn’t yet been officially cast.

The film is the start of a bigger story. Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay, with Michael Waldron, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers contributing to the story, and the Russos will also direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, set for December 17, 2027. The cast also includes Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd and the ‘Fantastic Four’ stars Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

With so many characters involved, fans are hoping for more character posters featuring the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four before release. For now, this Italian poster is another reminder that Doom is the main attraction, and that some international fans will meet him a little sooner than everyone else.
