Doctor Doom Takes Over Japan With a Massive New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Statue
Marvel’s campaign for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has made Doctor Doom impossible to miss around the world. Robert Downey Jr.’s villain has popped up in posters, merchandise, and themed displays across several countries as the film’s December 18 release gets closer.
Japan has become one of the most active stops on that tour. Cinemas across the country have already displayed limited-time lobby banners and standees, and fans have spotted new faction posters, including one that places the X-Men logo alongside the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the Wakandans.
Now Doom has arrived in Japan in an even bigger way. A massive statue of the villain has been unveiled outside a modern building, and photos of the installation have spread quickly online.
According to Comic Basics, the statue shows Doom seated on his throne in his metal mask and dark hooded cloak, with glowing green details on his armor. It sits on a wide stepped platform with the Marvel Studios logo at its base.

The outlet didn’t give exact measurements, but photos make the scale clear. A visitor dressed in a Doom-style cape and holding a mask at the base looked tiny next to the figure.
The new statue isn’t the only Doom display in the country. At 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City, another statue of the villain appeared in the lobby as part of a special decoration event themed around the eve of “Doomsday.”

That version shows Doom standing in full regalia, with his mask under a dark green hood and a chain across his armored chest. The theater playfully asked visitors not to touch it, warning that doing so might anger Doom, but encouraged fans to take photos.
Fans in Japan have also seen Doom in parade form. DiscussingFilm shared footage of a Doctor Doom parade in the country, adding to a promotional push that has turned the villain into a local attraction.

The campaign also includes a Japanese dub milestone. Tomoyuki Morikawa has been cast as the Japanese voice of Doom, and Downey Jr. personally announced the news in a video message to fans.
Japanese audiences won’t have to wait long to see the film. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Japan on December 18, the same day as its U.S. release, with Walt Disney Japan handling distribution.

The film brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and more against Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, it is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
The statue arrives alongside new marketing focused on Doom’s allies. Recent posters have spotlighted Boris and the Latverian Witches, a group of masked figures whose identities are still under wraps.

Leaked images have also fueled rumors that Boris could be Doctor Strange in disguise, though Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything. Fans have been trading theories online as each new image appears.
The story won’t end with ‘Doomsday’. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17, 2027, continuing the next phase of Marvel’s multiverse saga. For now, Japan’s giant Doom statue shows how big Marvel is going with this campaign. With less than 2 months to go, the villain’s presence will likely only get bigger.
