New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster Puts Doctor Doom’s Mysterious Allies in the Spotlight

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom won’t be facing Earth’s heroes alone. As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ approaches, Marvel’s marketing has slowly revealed a group of shadowy figures loyal to the ruler of Latveria.

Earlier promotional art showed Doom alongside a figure called Boris and a group of masked magic users known as the Latverian Witches. An international poster released ahead of San Diego Comic-Con Málaga also showed Doom in his throne room with 3 of the witches in the background.

Now another piece of art is giving fans a closer look at Doom’s inner circle. Cosmic Marvel shared a new promo poster for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ featuring Boris and the Latverian Witches, crediting the image to BuiltFromSmash.

The artwork has an eerie, gothic feel. Boris stands in dark armor on the right side of the frame, while 3 hooded witches wait beside him in a misty forest. Above them, a glowing rune-like symbol crackles with lightning across the sky. A skull sits at the bottom of the image, adding to the ominous mood.

Marvel hasn’t revealed who Boris is, and that mystery has fueled plenty of fan theories. ComicBookMovie notes that leaked images suggest the character may be an MCU veteran, though that hasn’t been confirmed.

One popular rumor claims Boris could be Doctor Strange acting as Doom’s most loyal acolyte. Fans have pointed to a third eye on the character’s mask as a possible clue, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything.

The Latverian Witches are just as mysterious. Reports suggest the film will introduce more than 3 of these magic users, and their identities are hidden behind masks. Fans have tried to guess who might be underneath based on the colors of their robes. Some theories point to the Scarlet Witch, Clea, or Sylvie, though none of these have been confirmed.

An unverified plot leak has also claimed that one witch is a shapeshifter who takes the form of Peggy Carter to fool Steve Rogers. As with the other rumors, fans should treat it with caution until the film arrives.

The poster reinforces how much backup Doom will have in the film. Recent promo material has also hinted at an army of Sentinels under his command, raising the stakes for the heroes.

Co-director Joe Russo has also teased another possible link to Doom’s plans. He said Bruce Banner, who is recruited by Doom in a new ‘Avengers: Endgame’ post-credits scene, is involved in the story, though he wouldn’t confirm whether Banner appears in ‘Doomsday’.

Joe and Anthony Russo direct ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely. The film brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans and the X-Men to face Downey Jr.’s Doom.

The cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright and Paul Rudd. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows in December 2027.

With every new poster and leak, Marvel seems determined to keep the biggest surprises hidden until opening day. The answers to who Boris and the witches really are should arrive when the film hits theaters on December 18.
