Doctor Strange of Asgard #2 Preview: Murder, Magic, and Mayhem in the Realm Eternal

Stephen Strange’s relocation to Asgard is proving more complicated than anticipated. The former Sorcerer Supreme of Earth isn’t just adjusting to a new realm; he’s navigating a web of divine politics, financial woes (yes, even gods have landlords), and dangerous secrets. We get a glimpse into this unfolding drama in the Doctor Strange of Asgard’ #2 Preview.

Life among the gods isn’t all feasting and glory. Strange finds himself needing to master Asgardian magic while simultaneously looking for work to pay the bills. Adding to his troubles are mysterious assassins targeting him and the growing suspicion of Thor himself. It seems Strange’s attempt to find redemption or perhaps just an escape has landed him in deeper trouble.

The preview reveals a central conflict involving Loki, who has apparently murdered the sorceress Hulda. Strange, arriving just after the event, made the difficult decision to render Hulda’s corpse invisible, hiding the crime for the moment. His reasons involve the potential political fallout in Asgard and the fact that simply teleporting the body away could trigger magical alarms. Now, Strange is stuck covering up a murder committed by the God of Mischief, a crime that would surely enrage Thor if discovered.

Things get tense when Strange confronts Loki. The preview pages show Loki claiming he was possessed or somehow influenced when he killed Hulda, pleading ‘I killed her, but I didn’t kill her, do you see?’ Strange isn’t buying it easily. He uses powerful restraints, including the Chains of Krakan and the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, to bind Loki. Under the influence of truth-compelling magic, Loki admits to the act but insists there’s more to the story.

Strange realizes he needs more power to unravel this mystery. He tells Clea his plan is to ‘get access to all the power I can muster, and that means Asgardian magic’. He believes mastering this new form of magic is key to discovering why Loki truly killed Hulda.

From what we can see from the preview for ‘Doctor Strange of Asgard’ #2, Strange decides to pursue this power, leaving Clea behind on Earth, reasoning that ‘With Doom as Sorcerer Supreme’ Earth needs watching.

This upcoming issue, written by Derek Landy with art by Carlos Magno, colors by Espen Grundetjern, and lettering by VC’s Cory Petit, promises a compelling mix of magical investigation and godly intrigue. We’re eager to see how Strange handles being caught between Asgardian power struggles and Loki’s deadly games. Look for the issue reportedly releasing on April 9, 2025.
