Duffer Brothers Set Their Next Netflix Series as Stranger Things Nears Its End & It’s an Adaptation Of New Crime Thriller Book

Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things, are getting ready for life after Hawkins. As their hit Netflix series wraps up this year, they’re already working on their next big project, and this time, it’s a crime story.
According to Deadline, the Duffer brothers will be producing a new series for Netflix based on a novel called The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne by Ron Currie.
The book tells the story of Babs Dionne, a grandmother in a small town who also happens to be the head of a local crime family.
The Penguin Random House title was released in late March and has made multiple Best of 2025 lists, including NPR, Amazon, Apple Books, The Guardian, and Barnes & Noble.
The plot follows her as she tries to find out what really happened to her youngest daughter, under some very strange and messy circumstances. Ron Currie is writing the script for the show with his partner Joshua Mohr, and both of them will also be executive producers.
Even though the Duffers are stepping away from Stranger Things, they’re still very busy at Netflix. Stranger Things will officially end this year with its fifth season, which will come out in three parts.
The first four episodes are dropping in November, the next three will be out in December, and the big finale will be released on December 31.
Aside from the crime drama, the Duffer brothers are also producing a couple more shows for Netflix that are expected to come out in 2026. One of them is called The Boroughs, which is a supernatural mystery series set in a peaceful retirement community in the New Mexico desert.
The show stars Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Alfre Woodard. It’s being made with creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, while the Duffers are on board as producers.
They’re also working on a psychological horror show called Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. That one’s about a wedding that takes a dark turn and stars Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco. Haley Z is involved as an executive producer alongside the Duffers.
Even though Stranger Things is ending, the universe it created is still growing. A new animated show, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is already in the works. There’s also going to be a live-action spinoff at some point.
The Duffers may be closing the book on Eleven and the Upside Down for now, but they’re clearly not done telling stories, just maybe in different worlds.
So while The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne doesn’t have Demogorgons or psychic teens, it still sounds like the kind of twisty, emotional story that could pull people in. And with the Duffer brothers involved, it’s definitely one to watch.
