Elle Fanning’s Apple TV+ Hit ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ Is Officially Returning for Season 2
Apple TV+ has built a reputation for landing quietly on audiences and then refusing to let go, and few of its recent titles have demonstrated that quality as convincingly as ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles.’ The series, created by David E. Kelley and based on Rufi Thorpe’s acclaimed 2024 novel, premiered on Apple TV+ in April and quickly became one of the platform’s most buzzed-about releases in recent memory. The show is produced by A24, adding another layer of prestige to an already formidable creative pedigree.
At the heart of the series is Elle Fanning as Margo Millet, a college dropout and aspiring writer who turns to OnlyFans to support herself and her newborn baby after being abandoned by the professor who fathered her child. Surrounding her is a stacked ensemble that includes Michelle Pfeiffer as her former Hooters waitress mother, Nick Offerman as her ex-professional wrestler father, and Nicole Kidman as a retired female wrestler turned legal mediator.
With Season 1’s finale still on the horizon, Apple TV+ has officially ordered a second season of ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles,’ with the announcement landing just a week before the first chapter wraps up. Alongside the renewal, Apple confirmed that writer and executive producer Eva Anderson will join Kelley as co-showrunner on the upcoming season.
The pickup arrives on the back of extraordinary critical momentum, with the series currently holding a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 60 critic reviews, with the consensus praising its attention to emotional detail, authentic performances, and brilliant storytelling. Metacritic also assigned the show a score of 79 out of 100 based on 29 critics, signaling broadly favorable reception across the board.

Fanning, who also executive produces alongside her sister Dakota Fanning through their Lewellen Pictures banner, shared her enthusiasm in a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter, describing the experience of bringing Margo to screen as one of the greatest joys of her life and promising audiences they are in for a wild, messy, and beautiful ride in the second season. Kelley added that ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ was an irresistible proposition from the very beginning, and that seeing audiences embrace the show alongside its partners at Apple and A24 has been deeply rewarding.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, noted that ever since the adaptation debuted, audiences have wanted to spend more time with these riveting characters, and that the streamer is excited to watch Margo and the entire family continue to defy the odds in the way only they can, with humor, determination, and creativity. The season one storyline alone saw Margo navigate a custody battle over baby Bodhi and the heartbreak of her father Jinx’s relapse into addiction, suggesting the writers have plenty of emotional terrain left to explore.
The series made its public debut at the SXSW Film and TV Festival in March before releasing its first three episodes on Apple TV+ in April, with weekly drops continuing through the May 20 finale. With Margo’s chaotic world of mounting bills, creative hustle, and messy family loyalty confirmed to continue into a second season, now feels like the right time to ask which corner of her unraveling life you most want to see Season 2 dig into.
