Ewan McGregor Sheds Light on Possible ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2: “I’m Waiting For the Call”

Star Wars currently has several projects in progress, ranging from Mangold’s new film set millennia in the past to Waititi’s mysterious project, which he hinted might upset fans. There’s also talk of a new movie following Rey rebuilding the Jedi order 15 years ahead, rumored not to lead to a trilogy but to stand alone. Additionally, Filoni is actively involved in developing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, along with other upcoming endeavors.

Amidst this flurry of upcoming works, fans have been eagerly asking about ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2. Ewan McGregor provided some insights into the series’ potential future during his appearance on The Tonight Show alongside his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

For me, I have no news to tell, I’m waiting for the call. I don’t know if its happening.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead confirmed that ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 is currently in development, which was greeted with cheers and applause. Less than a year ago, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy mentioned that a second season of the show isn’t out of the question but is improbable at the moment due to the abundance of new content announced during the Star Wars Celebration event just a few months earlier.

That is not in active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another.

Chow, the show’s director, had disappointing news for the fans as her statement didn’t suggest a positive outlook for the future.

I’m sure you can tell from the story that it is closed. We did obviously seem to tell one big story. Who knows, there’s ten more years before ‘A New Hope’ starts, so never say never.

Now, the potential for Season 2 is practically limitless – if it ever comes to fruition. There’s roughly a decade of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s self-imposed exile on Tatooine between the end of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 1 and ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.’ Wouldn’t it be fascinating to explore those years of Kenobi’s solitude?

Certainly, it wouldn’t make sense for Anakin and Obi-Wan to reunite – that would directly contradict the original trilogy. However, Season 2 could delve into Kenobi’s life on Tatooine. Perhaps he faces threats specific to the planet itself. Maybe we witness more of his clandestine protection of young Luke from afar? What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
