Ewan McGregor’s Latest ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 Tease Might Be His Boldest Yet

Star Wars fans have spent years hoping for one more chapter of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ and the actor at the center of that hope keeps giving them just enough to keep the dream alive. Ewan McGregor has never been shy about wanting to revisit the role that first made him a household name in a galaxy far, far away, and his comments over the past couple of years have kept the rumor mill spinning nonstop.

The Disney Plus series was always billed as a limited run, a six episode event that closed the gap between the prequels and ‘A New Hope.’ Even so, chatter about a potential second season has simmered ever since the finale aired, with McGregor himself repeatedly fielding the question at conventions and press events. In one such moment, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said a follow-up was not in active development but stressed she would never rule it out entirely.

Now, according to a post from the fan account Star Wars Holocron on X, McGregor has doubled down on that hope in a fresh round of comments. The account quotes him saying he wants to think there might be a season 2, joking that the show ended with him walking off with Liam Neeson riding his camel, which is technically an eopie, and wondering aloud what happened between that ending and Alec Guinness stepping into the role for ‘A New Hope.’

That framing lines up with what McGregor has been telling outlets for months. He has pointed to the roughly ten years of story between the Disney Plus series and Guinness taking over as Obi-Wan, noting he rides off into the desert on his eopie at the end of the show. He has described that stretch of time as ripe for more stories, insisting there has got to be another few adventures hiding in that gap.

Despite the persistent teasing, McGregor recently admitted that nothing has actually moved forward on the project, joking that public enthusiasm might be the thing that finally gets it greenlit. Director Deborah Chow has echoed a similar sentiment in the past, saying she is not closed off to returning to the character even as she focused on finishing the show she already had in front of her.

Part of what keeps this speculation alive is just how beloved ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ remains within the wider Disney Plus slate. The series still ranks as one of the platform’s more popular Star Wars offerings, trailing only ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ in overall standing. That kind of staying power gives fans reason to believe Lucasfilm could eventually revisit the character, even if nothing official has been confirmed.

For now, all anyone has is another round of hopeful comments from the man who has played Obi-Wan on and off for over two decades. Whether this latest tease actually leads anywhere remains to be seen, but McGregor clearly is not letting the idea go quietly. Do you think Disney will finally give Obi-Wan his stories between ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and ‘A New Hope,’ or is this camel joke destined to stay just a joke?
