Fans Concerned About ‘The Acolyte’ Episode 3 Breaking Canon: “It became about Iesbian witches producing children with the Force”

The Internet Is Going Crazy Over 'The Acolyte' Episode 3 - Is It Too Woke?

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ recently aired its third episode, and it has sparked significant controversy. The episode is a flashback that explores events on the planet Brendok 16 years before the main storyline. It introduces a secretive coven of witches, similar to the Nightsisters of Dathomir, who possess unique Force abilities distinct from the Jedi and Sith.

Osha and Mae, the only children on Brendok, strongly hint at being born from the power of the Force. In a conversation between Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril, there are implications about their unusual conception, suggesting Mother Aniseya may have had a role in their creation. This echoes a famous line from ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,’ where it was said about Anakin Skywalker: “There is no father.”

Mother Koril supposedly carried the twins physically, while Mother Aniseya created them through unconventional means, likely manipulating the Force or guiding it until life emerged.

Fans took offense because the episode suggests that Anakin isn’t unique and that the Force created not just one, but two chosen ones a century before ‘The Phantom Menace.’ However, there’s a crucial difference: Anakin was conceived purely by the will of the Force, without external manipulation. Osha and Mae, on the other hand, were created through manipulation of the Force and thus cannot be considered chosen ones.

Mother Aniseya implies this when she suggests that the Jedi would likely eliminate the twins upon discovering how they were created, hinting at dark side involvement in their conception. Such experiments are not unfamiliar in Star Wars lore.

Nevertheless, the episode faced criticism and ridicule from fans.

Has ‘The Acolyte’ broken canon? It’s too soon to say; we’ll need to watch more episodes to understand how exactly Osha and Mae were created. However, introducing such a controversial plot twist was sure to invite mockery and criticism.
