Since Iron Man’s death in ‘Endgame,’ a significant chapter of the MCU has concluded, leaving most fans aware that the era they knew had also ended. Despite Kevin Feige repeatedly stating that bringing Tony Stark back from the dead is off the table, fans have persistently clamored for his return.

Reviving the character would diminish the emotional impact of ‘Endgame’ entirely. However, recent discussions suggest that RDJ’s Iron Man might reappear in the MCU as a variant in ‘Secret Wars.’ Robert Downey Jr. himself has expressed openness to returning, noting that the role is deeply ingrained in his identity.

Industry insider and leaker Jeff Sneider has hinted in his weekly newsletter that the MCU intends to bring Tony back, but with a twist. According to him, Robert Downey Jr. could return in a future ‘Avengers’ film, portraying a version of Tony Stark who transforms into Doctor Doom.

This concept mirrors the Infamous Iron Man storyline, where Doctor Doom takes on the Iron Man mantle in a reversed fashion. There’s also speculation that the MCU may draw from the Superior Iron Man variant for its adaptation.

Both Iron Man and Doctor Doom are heavily rumored to play roles in the upcoming ‘Secret Wars.’ However, with over 60 characters teased for future ‘Avengers’ installments, rumors and leaks are increasingly unreliable.

Fans have not reacted positively to these rumors.

Interestingly, it was revealed some time ago that Robert Downey Jr. originally auditioned for the role of Doctor Doom in ‘Fantastic Four’ (2005), which ultimately went to Julian McMahon.
