Fire Force Season 3: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast & More

Written by Atsushi Ōkubo, Fire Force is an ongoing fantasy manga that follows a special unit known as the Fire Force, which has to take care of cases involving spontaneous human combustion. The world of Fire Force is a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world where Tokyo managed to flourish, but the threats are still there. The manga has been adapted into an anime series, two seasons of which have aired so far. In this article, you’re going to find out about the upcoming third season of Fire Force.
After months of speculation, a third season of Fire Force was ultimately confirmed on May 16, 2022. Knowing how popular the source material is, this did not come as a surprise. Unfortunately, no further details have been given so we don’t have any additional information for you, although you shouldn’t expect the season to premiere before 2023.
The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the third season of Fire Force. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this great anime series.
Fire Force Season 3 Release Date
As of 2021, Fire Force has a total of 48 episodes divided into two 24-episode seasons. The first season of the show aired between July 6, 2019 and December 28, 2019. The second and so far final season aired a year later, from July 4, 2020 to December 12, 2020. This is what we know of the current structure of the Fire Force anime.
Now, until May 2022, no news had been given on a potential third season. The anime did not adapt the whole manga, not even the whole story up to the second season’s premiere, which meant that there was a lot of material to adapt; considering the fact that Fire Force is not yet finished, there would also have been additional stories to adapt if the producers decided to do so.
But, the situation changed on May 16, 2022, when it was officially confirmed that Fire Force would be getting a third season:
Unfortunately, no further information has been provided, which means that we still don’t have much to go on. Depending on whether the producers opt for one or more 24-episode seasons, the release date for a potential third season might come sooner or later.
Now, we have already said that Fire Force was almost a sure thing as far as continuation goes – the manga is doing great, the story is intriguing, and there is a dedicated fanbase – so this confirmation is not surprising. All of these facts usually mean that an anime is going to get a renewal at one point in the future, regardless of a possible hiatus, and that is what happened here.
So, when could we expect to see it? The author, Atsushi Ōkubo, has stated that the manga is nearing its end and that the plans to finish it with volume 30, which is closer than you might think. This means that he’ll probably be focusing on the manga before any work on the new anime season begins. This means that we probably won’t be seeing Fire Force before 2023.
Fire Force Season 3 Trailer
As you might have deduced, there is no trailer for the third season of Fire Force. Why? Well, simply because the third season of Fire Force has not been produced. The series is certainly going to return, as we have said above, but until we get an official confirmation of the production start, we won’t be seeing a trailer.
The earliest we could see a trailer is late 2022, but that all depends on when the producers plan on releasing the potential third season. A 2023 debut seems much more probable.
Fire Force Season 3 Plot
In order to tell you what you can expect from the anime, we have to see what we already know. The manga takes place in a future where sea level rise has collapsed continents and caused the disappearance of many 50 countries before.
Japan is now much smaller and the inhabitants have gathered in the tiny Tokyo empire, where the Sacred Sol Church and Haijima industries have developed the Amaterasu, a perpetual thermal power plant.
In the year 198 of the solar age in Tokyo, a special force of firefighters called the Fire Force has formed to combat increasing incidents of spontaneous human combustion in which humans transform into living hells called Infernals.
While the fired ones are first-generation cases of spontaneous human combustion, subsequent generations possess pyrokinesis while retaining the human form. The Fire Force was formed by uniting people with these powers from the Santo Sol Church, the Tokyo Armed Forces, and the Fire Defense Agency, and is made up of eight independent companies.
This was an overview of the setting of Fire Force, showing you that it’s a post-apocalyptic work that doesn’t really look like one. And that is, in our opinion, quite refreshing. Now, what about the plot?
The focus of the story is on Shinra Kusakabe is a third-generation young pyrokinetic who has earned the nickname “Demon’s Footprints” for his ability to light up his feet at will, joins the 8th special brigade that features other pyrokinetic people, who are tasked with working both to extinguish the Infernals they encounter, and to investigate Brigades 1 through 7.
As a faction that creates Infernals appears, Shinra begins to learn the cause of the mysterious fire that killed her family 12 years ago.
The first two seasons have given us an introduction to the quarrels of the Fire Force and their fight against the Evangelists. Knowing what happens later in the manga, we can expect the third season to continue building on that fight, which is probably going to be the main focus of the whole season.
Fire Force Season 3 Cast
As we have said, we don’t have any official info about the third season of Fire Force, so we can only speculate that the main cast from the first two seasons, both the Japanese and English voice actors, will return.
This, of course, depends on the production dates and everything else, but this has been the case with most anime so far, so we can assume that it will happen again with Fire Force, but we cannot be absolutely certain. So, who would return? Here is a list:

Will There be a Fire Force Season 4?
It might be too early to discuss a potential fourth season of Fire Force since we don’t even know when the third season is going to air, but there are some great indicators that Fire Force might go on even after a potential third season.
Namely, Fire Force is not as grand as the “Big Three”, which means that there aren’t too many episodes per season. This, of course, gives the producers less space to develop the plot but also more potential seasons, as you don’t really want to rush such shows.
Seeing how the manga is quite popular and is doing well, as well as taking into consideration the fact that the anime hasn’t adapted the whole story (not even the whole story so far, let alone the unfinished chapters), we don’t see how a potential third season could wrap things up, meaning that a fourth season is more likely than not. But, we’ll have to wait and see.
