Ever since the HBOMax streaming service was launched last year, Warner Bros was looking at how to expand the content they offer. They even decided to release the new movies simultaneously in theaters and on streaming service because of the pandemic, but not everyone agreed with their methods.

Director Christopher Nolan, their longtime collaborator, decided he’ll make his next movie for Universal Pictures, while Patty Jenkins agreed to direct Wonder Woman 3 only after it was promised that the movie will have traditional release in theaters.

Now, as the number of HBOMax subscribers is growing and the service is becoming available in more countries, WB decided it’s time to start making movies exclusively for the streaming service, and luckily for DC fans, two of them are ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Blue Beetle’.

Batgirl movie was in production hell for years. Joss Whedon was originally attached to the project but left it soon after the unsuccessful release of Justice League in 2017. Now, the movie will be written by Christina Hodson and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bill Fallah.

Batgirl will be portrayed by Leslie Grace, and it was announced that J.K. Simmons will reportedly return as James Gordon. Directors also revealed that the movie will feature Batman, although they didn’t say which one. Grace also said there’s no suit yet, but Batgirl will have her comic accurate red hair.

Batgirl will be the first DCEU movie made exclusively for HBOMax. The movie will reportedly be inspired by The New 52 comic books as a starting point.

Also, there’s one more DC movie in development for HBOMax – Blue Beetle. The movie will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto, with Xolo Maridueña playing the titular role.
