In 2019, we were introduced to Wu Assassins, which was a pretty fun ride if you are a big fan of martial arts and the mystical forces. That is why Wu Assassins has its own niche market and fans that love the show. But while it has been a few years since season 1 and with no second season in sight, we are treated to a standalone movie called Fistful of Vengeance, which continues the adventure. So, when is Wu Assassins: Fistful of Vengeance going to be released, and what is it all about?

Wu Assassins: Fistful of Vengeance will be available for streaming on Netflix on February 17, 2022. The plot will directly start off from where season 1 of Wu Assassins left off, as it starts off with the death of Jenny Wah. This forces Kai Jin and his friends to investigate the murder and seek retribution.

While it did take a while for fans to see Wu Assassins with a new story, the good news is that neither the showrunners nor Netflix gave up on it, as we now have Fistful of Vengeance, which is the continuation for the entire story. That said, Fistful of Vengeance opens up a lot of opportunities for the series, as it may continue to deliver us more standalone films or even more seasons in the future.

Fistful Of Vengeance Release Date

The best part about Netflix is that it has a library of different shows that you might not have heard of before but are still amazing in their own right. That’s because there are plenty of different shows that were shot and produced in other countries. On top of that, these shows are hidden gems that you will only know about if you actually give them a try.

One of the Netflix shows that will surely entertain you is Wu Assassins, which might not be the most popular and most well-known show on the streaming giant’s library but still promises to be great because of its amazing martial arts action and intriguing storyline. It was in 2019 that Netflix brought in Wu Assassins.

The basic premise of the series focuses on a character named Kai Jin, who works as a Chinatown chef in San Francisco, but is actually a mystical warrior powered by the souls of a thousand monks. He is what is known as a Wu Assassin, an amazing warrior that is capable of fighting an entire army on his own.

Kai Jin gets entangled with the Chinese Triad’s search of ancient powers that are known as Wu Xing. When Kai gets entangled with a spirit, he becomes the aforementioned Wu Assassin, who is capable of powers beyond that of the regular martial artist’s capabilities. And his main purpose is to recover the supernatural powers from the different modern-day criminals that were able to acquire these ancient powers to use them for evil.

At the end of the first season, Kai Jin and his friends thought that his job as a legendary Wu Assassin was already done. However, he receives a mysterious envelope that tells him that there are still a lot more things left to do for a Wu Assassin. And this opened up the next plot for the story, which was supposed to be a second season.

Fans have waited for the second season to arrive or get announced for years, ever since the first season premiered in 2019. It is usually common for Netflix to announce a second season or a cancellation shortly after the release of a show’s first season. But this was not the case for Wu Assassins, as fans of the show had to wait for a while for any announcements regarding the future of the show.

However, in 2021, it was revealed that Netflix was moving on with a standalone movie for Wu Assassins instead of announcing a full-blown second season. The movie is entitled Wu Assassins: Fistful of Vengeance.

Fistful of Vengeance was done filming during the middle of 2021. Then, just a few days ago, it was announced that the movie would be premiering on Netflix on February 17, 2022. As such, fans of the series only have to wait for a few weeks to see the continuation of a story that they have been following since 2019.

Giving Wu Assassins the standalone movie treatment is not something new for Netflix. After all, there have been several shows that were not able to garner enough attention but were still great on their own. These shows may have gotten canceled, but Netflix gave them another lifeline by allowing them to have their own standalone films.

For example, the popular series Sense8 was allowed to have two and a half hours in its season finale after it was axed following its second season. Meanwhile, in 2020, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt had an interactive series finale after its fourth and final season.

While we are yet to know whether or not Wu Assassins is going to get canceled or is about to conclude its storyline after Fistful of Vengeance, it still is quite possible that the story will end after this movie. However, depending on the film’s reception, it is also a good possibility that the movie will get a follow-up season that will continue the storyline.

Fistful Of Vengeance Trailer

On January 20, 2022, Netflix released the full Fistful of Vengeance trailer. You can catch it on YouTube using this link:

Fistful Of Vengeance Plot

After the conclusion of the first season of Wu Assassins, we were obviously given a hint that the series was not yet done because an event in the season finale opened up the possibility of more things to come in the storyline. As such, Fistful of Vengeance is a direct continuation of the events of season 1 of Wu Assassins.

In the trailer for Fistful of Vengeance, we see Jenny Wah, one of the main characters of the first season, getting murdered. Jenny played a crucial role in the first season, as she is one of Kai Jin’s childhood friends. And as Kai is working as a chef, Jenny follows a career as a businesswoman and restaurant owner.

However, in the trailer, she gets mysteriously killed. Of course, based on the title of the standalone movie, we are going to conclude that Jenny’s murder is what prompts Kai and his other friends to investigate and seek revenge for the murder of a childhood friend. The goal is to find a killer and seek justice for Jenny Wah.

Following the figurative trail of blood, Kai and his friends go to Bangkok, Thailand, where they discover that they could be up against the Queen of the Bangkok underworld. And the worst part is that she is quite possibly an ancient threat that has otherworldly powers that may be more than what Kai Jin and his friends are capable of.

The good news about Fistful of Vengeance is that, according to Lewis Tan (who plays the role of Lu Xin Lee) in an interview, he said that a lot about the next step in the Wu Assassins storyline focuses on things moving forward, as the first season had already fleshed the backstory out. This means that Fistful of Vengeance will be more about the action and the story rather than telling us more about the backstories of each of the characters involved.

Of course, because the film is only going to be around 90 minutes long, expect the action to be fast-paced and as well-choreographed as it has ever been. It’s going to be interesting to see how they were able to explore an entirely new story in only 90 minutes. But, considering that Fistful of Vengeance will no longer explore the character’s backstories, it is safe to say that the plot will focus more on the actual story of the movie.
