‘From’ Season 2 Episode 4 Ending Explained: Will Anna End Up in the Box?
Welcome to the ending explained for ‘From‘ Season 2 Episode 4. In last week’s episode, the biggest reveal came toward the end of the episode when we found out that Anna survived her ordeal with the forest and made it back alive. This week’s episode, however, was slower in pace, but it did answer some of the questions.
Donna finally figured out how to deal with Randall. Jim is on the verge of discovering something important, and Anna, despite surviving, is still not off the hook, considering that Kenny wants her in the Box by all means necessary. Now before we give everything away, let’s proceed with our analysis of the episode.
How did Anna survive the forest?
Kenny accidentally ran into Anna when he went to look through Father Khatri’s stuff, and like any good deputy, he first told Boyd everything about it. Anna revealed that she made it out of the forest by jumping through a tree trunk, but instead of landing in the abandoned shaft as Boyd, she appeared in Father Khatri’s basement and has been there ever since, hoping to go unnoticed.
Just to remind you, Anna is a wanted woman in the town. Before she and Boyd set out into the forest, she killed Jade’s friend by slitting his throat and Kenny’s dad letting the monsters into the hospital. She also tried to kill young Ethan Matthews and accidentally slit her brother’s throat.

The reasoning behind her acts was that she heard a voice inside her head telling her that if she proceeded to kill certain individuals around town, all of them would be allowed to go home. Any other person around town would pay for those crimes by staying in the Box overnight, resulting in monsters tearing them apart.
Anna managed to convince Father Khatri and Boyd that she was hearing real voices by revealing details from their past that no one knew about, and this is why Boyd brought her along when he decided to explore the surrounding forest. She saved Boyd’s life when the Boy in White revealed himself to her and told her to push Boyd inside a tree trunk.
Boyd is grateful, and he realizes that there is something special about Anna. He is unwilling to let Anna go inside the Box, but it’s a delicate issue considering how many people she killed, and well, people don’t look kindly upon other people who hear voices who tell them to kill people. It’s an understandable dilemma because Anna seems to be a much bigger liability than she is worth.
Besides, Boyd’s investigation ultimately revealed nothing about the town’s situation. It led to even more secrets, so it’s no wonder that Kenny is skeptical about it all.
Is Boyd losing his mind?
Boyd leaves Anna and Kenny alone to visit Kristi at the clinic. She asks him about his progressing Parkinson’s disease, but Boyd is uncooperative. However, he wants to know the chances of the disease affecting his mind and making him see things, such as worms underneath his skin.

Kristi tells him that delusions and cognitive impairment are nothing to worry about at his stage and age and that these symptoms will probably not affect him at all. Still, Boyd is silent about “additional symptoms” and leaves the clinic before discussing the matter further. He visits the church, and there he encounters what appears to be the vision of Father Khatri. This hallucination is most likely induced by Father Khatri and Boyd arguing the last time a man was supposed to end up in the Box.

The “ghost” of Father Khatri advises Boyd to keep silent about what Anna did to Kenny’s father, that she is responsible for his death because Kenny might lose the only role model he has left. Boyd is still torn on what to do, but as it turns out, he might not even get a chance to reveal the truth to Kenny because Anna might do it herself.
Kenny is hellbent on getting Anna in the Box when he finds out the truth about his father
We’ve caught a glimpse into Kenny’s past in this episode, and we can see the reason why Kenny’s father ended up in the hospital in the first place. Due to his worsening dementia, he tried to open the doors for the monsters one night and even pushed Mrs. Liu to get her out of the way to get to the doors. He was convinced that his brothers were calling to him.
Because he endangered his family, Kenny’s father ended up in the basement room of the hospital because it didn’t have access to doors and windows overnight. As we know, Kenny’s father was soon killed by the monsters and the other nurse in the clinic when Anna intentionally left the doors open and the amulet on the ground. It was a massacre and something that greatly affected Kenny and his mother.
In the present day, Kenny talks to Anna and asks her why she did the things she did. He is unaware that she is responsible for the death of his father. Anna tells him she can’t explain things and there is nothing she can say to redeem herself. She deserves to go in the Box.
Kenny still wants to be convinced and pushes her, and then she breaks down and tells him everything. Kenny, shocked, makes his way to the clinic to ponder on the spot where his father was killed. There is still a silhouette made out of the blood on the walls and the floor.
This is where Boyd finds Kenny, and Kenny confronts him before he can explain everything. Boyd admits that he already knew for a while that Anna was the reason why Kenny’s father was dead. Kenny tells Boyd that he is disappointed with him and Anna needs to go to the Box before he proceeds to take off his deputy badge and throw it on the floor.

Kenny is no longer a deputy to Boyd, and Anna is about to face one very angry mob that consists of people that she hurt, both directly and indirectly.
Jim suspects that the town is one giant experiment
Jim is slowly healing but still carrying out his investigations. When Tabitha came to visit him, the two had the chance to share the knowledge of what had transpired in the last couple of days. Tabitha tells Jim that the vires are not connected to anything. Jim first says that he believes her but that it’s impossible, except if it was only designed to seem impossible.
This is when Jim explains to Tabitha that when building rollercoasters, they would design them to appear like they were breaking the laws of gravity and doing seemingly impossible things just to get the reaction out of people. Jim presents Tabitha with the theory: What if they are taking part in some sort of sick experiment? What if someone is simply looking at them, studying them to see their reactions?

He reveals to her that the radio did work and that they made contact with someone on the other side. The voice warned him that something might happen to Tabitha right around the same time the basement collapsed on top of her, and a few hours later, the house collapsed on top of Jim. The voice knew his name likewise.
Tabitha is shocked but asks Jim whether someone else heard the voice over the radio, and it did, Donna.
Jim goes to Donna, reminding her what transpired with the radio. However, Donna is pissed because she doesn’t want to break the news like this to people just yet. Whoever was on the other side of the radio, they are not even certain that the entity is benevolent in nature.
Suppose someone is watching them and doesn’t do anything to help them. The person obviously doesn’t have their best interest in mind. Jim agrees but asks about the radion, Donna reveals that it survived, but Jim is not allowed to use it without her permission.
Why did Donna banish Randall from the Colony House?
Randall is one of the newcomers who is skeptical about the whole thing and refuses the follow the rules. First, he held Kenny at gunpoint in the diner, questioning whether monsters even existed. Then, he got into a conflict with Boyd because he refused to surrender his rifle.
The last stroke of his good luck ran out when he got into an argument with Donna. The Colony House has a strict sharing policy. Everything is communal, even the clothes. It’s just the way it is. Randall apparently didn’t like that because he punched one Colony House member when he “went through his stuff,” and I can see his point of view, but clearly, the situation is unreal in nature, and some rules have to be bent and some principles abandoned.

Randall threatens that whoever touches his stuff will get beat up by him, and Donna has had enough of it. After a while, when Randall was causally lounging on the couch, she stormed out of the kitchen with an axe and banished him from the house. She led him to the abandoned bus and left him to fend for himself overnight with nothing but an amulet. She explained how it works, and because he was the only newcomer that was still skeptical about the monsters, she allowed him to see for himself. And he will have a front-row view of the monsters because the bus doesn’t have blinds. It’s open windows, baby.
To see how Randall will survive the night and whether Anna will end up in the Box, we’ll have to wait for Sunday, May 21, when the fifth season of ‘From’ Season 2, titled “Lullaby” airs.
