Goblin Slayer: What Is the Dungeon of the Dead & Why Did Goblin Slayer and His Party Go There?
GOBLIN SLAYER! is a dark fantasy and adventure light novel series that focuses on a young and inexperienced Priestess who wants to become an adventurer but lands in trouble as goblins wipe out her first party; she is saved by the mysterious Goblin Slayer, a brutal murderer of goblins, whom she then joins as they adventure together. This article will focus on a specific location from GOBLIN SLAYER!, which was important for Volume 8 and Season 2 of the series. The location in question is the Dungeon of the Dead, and in this article, you will find out everything you need.
The Dungeon of the Dead is a highly dangerous place
The locations present in GOBLIN SLAYER! are quite colorful, and while we have not given much attention to them so far, this article is going to be dedicated to a very notorious location that is quite important for the series’ lore. The location in question is the Dungeon of the Dead, one of the most dangerous places in the series, and in this article, we are going to tell you all that is known about it.
The Dungeon of the Dead has a long history in GOBLIN SLAYER!. It is arguably the most dangerous of all the Dungeons in the series, and it is certainly the deepest, as it has a total of ten levels, which is more than any other Dungeon in the whole series. It was once the residence of the Demon Lord, who used it as a base of operations from which he sent numerous monsters, demons, creatures, and plagues out into the world. But his actions were not just restricted to the North, where the Dungeon is located – he sent his horrors throughout the world.
Many Adventurers came to clear the Dungeon; for the purpose of accommodating them, a fortified city was built in front of the entrance to house the Adventurers who would try to clear it. Many, of course, died, but six of them eventually managed to kill the Demon Lord and have, since then, been known as the “All-Stars.” Of course, since the Demon Lord’s defeat and the clearing of the monsters, the Dungeon of the Dead has not been as popular with adventurers, but a discussion between Sword Maiden and The King’s Royal Court revealed that the Dungeon of the Dead is still a challenging task to conquer. And this brings us to the present.
Goblin Slayer and his party went to the Dungeon to save Princess from the goblins
So, having said all of this, why did Goblin Slayer and his party venture to the Dungeon of the Dead in the first place? Well, because of goblins, of course! Namely, earlier, a cultist nobleman who revered the God of Wisdom managed to manipulate a horde of goblins to enter the Dungeon of the Dead, where they were supposed to summon a Greater Demon. Of course, in order to execute the ritual, they needed to sacrifice a virgin, and for that purpose, the goblins – led by Goblin Priest – kidnapped Princess.
We have already talked about Princess and her shenanigans, which caused trouble for everyone (remember Priestess’ Chain Mail?), but the heroes still decided to venture into the Dungeon of the Dead to save her from being killed by the goblins. Of course, the heroes succeeded. They managed to enter the Dungeon of the Dead, surpassing the perils that they found there, and they ultimately managed to slay all the goblins, thus clearing the Dungeon of the Dead once again, making it safe for others.
Princess was, of course, saved as well, as the hero party led by Goblin Slayer and Priestess managed to intervene at just the right moment to save her life. And that is why the Dungeon of the Dead is such an important location in the lore and why we have written this article for you.
