Goblin Slayer: Who Is Earth Mother & How Is She Related to Priestess?
GOBLIN SLAYER! is a dark fantasy and adventure light novel series that focuses on a young and inexperienced Priestess who wants to become an adventurer but lands in trouble as goblins wipe out her first party; she is saved by the mysterious Goblin Slayer, a brutal murderer of goblins, whom she then joins as they adventure together. This article will be, in a way, related to Priestess, but not directly, as we are going to discuss the deity that she most often prays to – Earth Mother – who is one of the gods in GOBLIN SLAYER!. In this article, you will find out all there is to know about Earth Mother.
Earth Mother is one of the order-aligned Gods in GOBLIN SLAYER!
Although the focus of GOBLIN SLAYER! lies on the heroes and their allies, as well as the titular protagonist’s revenge against the goblins, the lore is much more complex, and there is a lot we could tell you about in this article. We have decided to tackle one specific topic in this article, as we are going to explore the theology and mythology of GOBLIN SLAYER!. In this article, you are going to find out about the gods of GOBLIN SLAYER!, or – to be more precise – about one specific god, Earth Mother. But before we get to her specifically, let us give you a brief introduction.
In the world of GOBLIN SLAYER!, the gods are a divine race of very powerful beings who rule over the Four-Cornered World and the lives of the adventurers. The more an adventurer worships a specific god, the more benefits he will have. The gods are extremely powerful, and they can hand out blessings, handouts, curses, and more powers, skills, or abilities to those who worship them. The pantheon of GOBLIN SLAYER! is not overly complex, but there are “regular” gods and the Greater Gods; the latter are not going to be discussed here.
As for the regular gods, they are divided based on whether they are aligned to Order or Chaos, and there is also one “Outlier God” who is not really aligned to any side. The Order-aligned gods are more numerous, and they are generally benevolent deities, Earth Mother, the goddess we are going to talk about here, is one of the Order-aligned deities and is – and we can confirm that – a benevolent deity in the series.
Not much is known about Earth Mother, but she is a female goddess and is the Goddess of Love, Fertility, & War. She has been described in the series as a woman with wings “overflowing with delight and compassion for worldly creatures”. Due to her specific personality and the powers she gives, she is the second most commonly worshiped deity in the series. But, aside from that, we do not know much about her in general, so we are going to close this section with this. We are now going to tell you about her connection to Priestess, one of the protagonists of the series.
Earth Mother is a benevolend deity whom Priestess worships
Now, the final thing we have to tell you before we end this article is the relationship between Earth Mother and Priestess. Priestess is an important character and her relationship with Earth Mother is one of the most important aspects of her story, so we have to explain it.
Priestess has a lot of powers and abilities, among which are the Miracles she can use, whose usage is controlled by Earth Mother, a deity of mercy and compassion. This is why, in general, these Miracles can only be used for good or in case of defense, i.e., it is generally prohibited for them to be used to harm others. This is why Priestess was on the verge of a breakdown when she used a Miracle with the intention to kill the goblin shaman; Earth Mother allowed her to use it then, but scolded her, telling her that Miracles should not be used like that.
But, despite this individual incident, Earth Mother and Priestess have a very good working relationship. Priestess is very devoted to Earth Mother, and Earth Mother is basically the source of all her (major) powers, which makes sense since gods reward those who worship them. Priestess sometimes doubts that she deserves the powers she had been given, but ever since she joined Goblin Slayer on his journey, she has made it clear to everyone that she does, indeed, deserve these powers as she is, despite her appearance, very strong and loyal.
