Goblin Slayer: Who Is Wizard Boy & What Are His Powers?

GOBLIN SLAYER! is a dark fantasy and adventure light novel series that focuses on a young and inexperienced Priestess who wants to become an adventurer but lands in trouble as goblins wipe out her first party; she is saved by the mysterious Goblin Slayer, a brutal murderer of goblins, whom she then joins as they adventure together. The characters of GOBLIN SLAYER! are quite intriguing. In this article, we will discuss one particular character, as you will find out who Wizard Boy is and just what the powers of this interesting adventurer are. We are also going to reveal additional biographical information about him.

Wizard Boy is an adventurer who also likes to kill goblins

Wizard Boy was first introduced to the series in Volume 6 of the light novel and has subsequently made his way into other works from the series as well. He is actually an adventurer and is also the younger brother of the late Wizard, whom he wants to avenge, which is why he ventures on a journey to slay goblins (in that aspect, his story is relatively similar to that of the protagonist of GOBLIN SLAYER!).

Wizard Boy’s story is very much connected to the story of his late sister, Wizard, who died fighting goblins. Wizard held her younger brother in very high regard, considering him a prodigy and someone who valued his sister and her opinion very much. Wizard Boy studied hard to become as good as her and make her proud. This is how we know that he became a very skilled wizard in the first place, although he could never finish his studies. Why? When he heard that his sister died while fighting goblins, he quit his studies and decided to become an Adventurer to avenge his sister.

His attitude is more often bad than not. He held himself in high regard and was unwilling to listen to any advice initially despite not having any experience whatsoever. He still thought he knew better than anyone else and vehemently declined any help, thinking he did not need it. But, after he failed his first mission involving a conflict with a troll, he became more open to accepting help, and his attitude improved. Still, he remained an asshole, despite the minor improvements.

On top of that, he is known for hating the Priestess very much, although she has done absolutely nothing to him. When he pushed her aside initially, he blamed her for getting in his way, which was a blatant lie. He later mocked her for not passing the promotional exam and for a general lack of experience, even though he had absolutely no experience either and that he had, at the time, had a total of zero quests on his tally. He hated her so much because his late sister also hated Priests, so he took it upon himself to elevate that aspect of her as well.

Now that we have told you a bit about him, we can tell you all we know about his powers and abilities.

What are Wizard Boy’s powers?

Well, the basic thing we know about Wizard Boy and his powers is that he is actually a wizard, which means his powers are primarily focused on magic and spells. We will have to say that, at this point, we still don’t have too much data on just how powerful he is, but he is a solidly skilled wizard and knows more than enough spells to get him around the series. So far, we have seen him use two specific spells.

The first spell he uses is the Fireball spell, which allows him to manipulate fire to a certain degree. This is his primary spell as far as offense is concerned. The main incantation for this spell is “Carbunculus… Crescunt… Iacta!” which then grants Wizard Boy control over fire. Sadly, he can only use this spell once per day. But interestingly enough, if he uses each individual part of the incantation separately, he can also create fire, expand an object, or fire a projectile. This means that, effectively, he actually knows four separate spells while using only one.

The second spell he knows is Shout, which is actually another usage of his Crescunt. He learned this after studying with the Dwarf Shaman, which helped him improve his overall skills and abilities. So, what does Shout do? Well, Shout allows Wizard Boy to actually… well, shout very loudly. The Shout is so impressive that it will scare away a small pack of goblins and can also be heard from very large distances. Also, those around Wizard Boy, when he uses this spell, have to cover their ears, as the destructive power of this spell can completely destroy their eardrums.
