Takashi Yamazaki’s return to the world of Godzilla is almost here. ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’, the follow-up to the Oscar-winning ‘Godzilla Minus One’, premiered at the New York Film Festival in September and opens in Japan on November 3, followed by North America on November 6.

The sequel brings back one of the franchise’s most famous villains. King Ghidorah is the film’s main new threat, but Toho has been careful about how much of the 3-headed monster it shows, keeping fans guessing about what Yamazaki’s version actually looks like.

Now a piece of merchandise appears to have revealed the design. According to Godzilla-Movies.com, a Yahoo! Fleamarket listing for Toho’s DESKTOP MONSTER collective Vol. 2 has given fans their first clear look at King Ghidorah’s redesigned appearance in ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’.

The already-sold listing, titled “DESKTOP MONSTER collective Vol.2 King Ghidorah (2026),” included photos of the sculpt and of the figure still in its packaging. It shows the monster on a clear acrylic base with a rocky element.

The figure features a golden-beige dragon with 3 long, slender, curving necks, horned and spiked heads, and large wings with prominent spines. Ghidorah is posed in a dynamic crouched or landing stance.

Fans have quickly started comparing the design with past versions of the monster. Godzilla-Movies.com noted that the heads are smaller and more refined, resembling the MonsterVerse Ghidorah, and also bear a slight resemblance to the version in ‘Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle’, a short Yamazaki directed for a theme park ride.

ComicBookMovie observed that the tail appears to be used as a weapon against Godzilla, and that the back spikes stand out more than in many earlier designs. One critic on social media even called it possibly the best Ghidorah ever. Because the figure came from a secondhand listing, it may be an early sample or prototype. The final paint and details could still differ from what appears on screen.

The DESKTOP MONSTER line is made up of small, official Toho collectibles, roughly 10 centimeters tall and designed to be displayed together. Earlier releases have included Godzilla from 2023 and 2016 as well as the 1991 King Ghidorah, while a 2026 Godzilla figure from the new volume has already been displayed in Japan.

The film is set in 1949, 2 years after Godzilla was defeated and sunk in Sagami Bay. A new kaiju attacks Matsumoto City, first appearing as a smaller dragon-like creature before eventually growing into the full 3-headed King Ghidorah.

As conventional weapons fail, Godzilla returns larger and more aggressive than before. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe return as Kōichi and Noriko Shikishima, alongside Yuki Yamada, Hidetaka Yoshioka and Min Tanaka.

Yamazaki wrote and directed the film and supervised its visual effects. It is also the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, with early IMAX screenings set for November 3 in the US, the UK and Mexico.

The bar is high after ‘Godzilla Minus One’ won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Early reviews for the sequel have been strong, with ComicBookMovie reporting a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score from 52 reviews. With the film almost in theaters, fans won’t have to wait long to see whether the toy matches the real thing. For now, the leak has given the fandom plenty to talk about.

What do you think of King Ghidorah’s leaked design in Godzilla Minus Zero?
