Akira Toriyama’s cult classic manga Dragon Ball has some of the best and most powerful characters (and fighters) in the world of anime and manga. Son Goku is usually our go-to character when these comparisons are concerned and that will be the case in this article as well. In this article, we are going to determine whether Goku can defeat Kefla and how he could (not) do it.

Goku would undoubtedly defeat Kefla very quickly. When the two of them fought, Goku managed to win even without his most powerful form. Perfect Ultra Instinct Goku, a character whose powers match those of the Gods of Destruction, would certainly be able to deal with Kefla with even more ease, which is why Goku is the clear winner here.

Now that you have the short version of the answer, the rest of the article is going to be divided into three sections, with the first two introducing the characters, their powers, and their abilities. In the end, we’re going to give our final verdict and explanation on why Goku would ultimately be able to defeat Kefla in a fight.

Son Goku and his powers

Son Goku is the main protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super, and their animated adaptations, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Kai, then Dragon Ball Super, as well as the alternate animated sequel to the first two series, Dragon Ball GT.

Son Goku is a born martial arts expert and fan, managing to read the movements of his opponents and get used to their attacks and speed. Usually in combat, Goku reserves large amounts of strength and restrains himself to the point of seemingly decreasing his ki level to absurdly low points in order to save energy.

However, he also demonstrated the ability to unleash all his power at just the right time as he launches a physical attack. As a Saiyan, Goku is able to use the Saiyan Power, which allows him to surpass his strength whenever he takes large amounts of damage or fatal injuries. Goku being an alien also has enhanced senses of smell, taste and sight, which further increases his combat senses.

Son Goku is one of the strongest characters in the series; he rivals Vegeta for the position of Warrior Z and the most powerful warrior of Universe 7. At birth, his power was two units.

Upon arriving on Planet Earth at the age of three, Grandpa Gohan realizes that he is incredibly strong and that it would have been dangerous for him if he were not an expert in martial arts. Thus, he was in charge of molding and training him in martial arts.

Kefla and her powers

Kefla is the Saiyan fusion born from the union between Kale and Caulifla through the Pothala Earrings of the Kaio-shin Huwa. She first appears in the Universal Survival Arc of the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga, where she is a representative of Team Universe 6 in the Tournament of Power. Vados explains that by fusing with the Pothala she increases the power of the users tens of times, and as Kefla charges up energy, Goku can’t feel a limit to her power.

Her power is not only immense, but her speed as well, enough to quickly surprise a Super Saiyan God Goku and in turn attack him and send him to the ground, only using her base state. When transforming into Super Saiyan, her power is able to maintain a more or less even fight with a Super Saiyan Blue Goku, forcing him to use the Kaio-ken x20 along with the transformation.

Because of this, Kefla was in trouble, but managed to counterattack easily and overpower Goku in this state to the point of knocking him down and causing him to return to his base state from the damage he took. This explains that her First Grade Super Saiyan ki is comparable to that of the Genki-dama that Goku Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken x20 threw at Jiren and Kefla herself suggests that she feels she could destroy a universe with the power that lies within her.

However, it is not known if this statement is accurate or was a way of showing off or exaggerating her power before Goku. Piccolo comments that Kefla managed to overcome Son Goku’s previous power, referring to her when she used the Precognitive Selfish Doctrine in her first match against Jiren.

These statements did not come alone, since Kefla continued to increase her power, even being able to transform into Super Saiyan 2, so her power is even greater. At her full power she gained the ability to hold a fight with Goku using the Precognitive Selfish Doctrine for the second time; Goku was much faster, blocking and dodging all her attacks, showing a clear difference in abilities, but he was not able to hurt her with his blows because he still hadn’t mastered that state, although he was able to expel her from the platform with a Kamehameha.

Gohan vs. Kefla: Who Would Win & Why?

It is implied that Kefla’s power was so great that she could have killed Goku with her Final Weapon if Goku had been hit by the attack, however, it is also implied that the gap in strength between the two is small and they were at a level of comparable power. This suggests that Kefla could have been defeated without much difficulty by Goku if he had completed the Selfish Doctrine at that time.

On the other hand, Kefla would have been able to defeat Goku and kill him if he hadn’t known how to counterattack and dodge his attacks. Vados claims that Kefla has the energy of Kale in Super Saiyan Out of Control and the fighting skills of Caulifla. Thus, she is able to easily wipe out all of the Pride Troopers that face her and cause her elimination (Tupper, Kunsi, Zoirei, Kettle, and Vuon).

This also harms Carsserale and Dispo, who are forced to withdraw. The Universe 6 angel also adds that due to these united qualities, Kefla can become an unrivaled warrior in the Tournament of Power. However, Jiren is not interested in fighting her. Son Gohan is able to easily deflect a charged energy wave from Kefla, when she intended to attack Son Goku and Jiren.

Finally, the mestizo Saiyan shows Kefla that he is just as strong as her and the two fight in a brutal encounter that leaves them badly injured and ends in a double elimination between them.

Son Goku vs. Kefla: Who would win?

We could, actually, give you a proper analysis of the things we have written above but that wouldn’t really do the trick when compared with what we have decided to go with. Namely, as Goku and Kefla have, indeed, fought in the manga, we thought that it would be better for us to just recap this battle and show you how it all played out, while giving some additional comments in the end.

As Kale and Caulifla were about to be eliminated by Super Saiyan God Son Goku, they use the Potaras the Kaiō-Shin Fuwa gave them before the Tournament of Power, as a last resort. Thus, they merge and give birth to a new being, Kefla. Son Goku, in Super Saiyan God, is impressed by their incredible power; the same goes for Vegeta who is in Super Saiyan Blue.

Kefla’s enormous Ki leaves Vegeta destabilized from his fight against Toppo, while Kefla states that she feels fine. Quickly, she tests her abilities by undermining Son Goku. She manages to dominate Son Goku in Super Saiyan God, being exhausted, and shows him how formidable she is. Kefla ejects Zarbuto and Rabanra, two warriors from Universe 2 who were about to merge and their Potaras find themselves destroyed by this projection (however, Helles seems to enjoy the brilliance of the Potaras).

Son Goku who has decided not to spare himself anymore, transforms into Super Saiyan Blue, and Kefla transforms into Super Saiyan, in order to fight a fight at full power. As the fight rages between the two Saiyans of Universe 6 and the Saiyan of Universe 7, the arena suffers heavy damage and the spectators are struck by the powerful energies of Kefla and Son Gok; the latter even comes to use the Kaio-Ken in order to turn the situation to his advantage.

Kefla decides to use the same Kikoha attack used previously to force Son Goku to counter it with a Kamehameha, but Kefla takes the opportunity to sneak up behind him and deliver a powerful kick. Son Goku falls to the ground and regresses to his normal form. Champa then rejoices to see a totally weakened Son Goku and orders Kefla to pull him out of the arena.

But Kefla seems upset by this sad end to the fight. However, her smile returns when she sees Son Goku getting up, as her Saiyan blood urges her to continue her fight. Kefla throws several Kikohas at Son Goku, still exhausted, but he he manages to dodge them without even paying attention to them. Indeed, Son Goku had just awakened Ultra Instinct.

Son Goku and Kefla then decide to awaken their respective potentials. In addition, Kefla transforms into Super Saiyan 2. The two Saiyans resume the fight but unfortunately for Kefla, Son Goku is far superior. Left with no choice but to push her power to the maximum, Kefla deploys powerful Kikohas and ravages the arena, forcing the tournament participants to walk away.

Son Goku, losing more and more energy, decides to finish Kefla with a powerful Kamehameha. He dodges the attacks of the rage-crazed Saiyan and strikes her at point-blank range. Kefla is kicked out of the arena and her Potaras are reduced to dust, thus canceling the fusion.

It wasn’t a clear win for Goku here, but he did win and he won without using his powers and abilities. Son Goku is on another level when compared to Kefla and it makes sense that he can defeat her, even without using Perfect Ultra Instinct. This is why our opinion on this matter reflects the events from the series.
