Rockstar Games / Paramount+ with Showtime

Rockstar Games has built an entire reputation around packing its open worlds with layers of hidden references, and dedicated fans have made a sport out of hunting them down within hours of any new footage dropping. That tradition kicked into high gear once again this week, following one of the biggest gameplay reveals in the studio’s history.

With ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ still riding the wave of its record-breaking extended look presentation, eagle-eyed players have already zeroed in on a detail that’s turning heads for a very specific reason.

An apartment inspired by Dexter Morgan’s place will seemingly appear in ‘GTA 6,’ according to fan sleuths poring over the newly released extended gameplay footage. The discovery was first flagged by X user Saukko505, who shared an image appearing to show a modified version of the iconic serial killer’s Miami residence tucked within the game’s Vice City setting, joking that someone would inevitably “buy an apartment there online and make an entire YouTube series out of it, role-playing as Dexter.”

GTA 6 Leaks Take a Wild Turn With Footage That Might Prove the Leaker Has the Actual Game

This isn’t the first time fans have spotted a connection between Rockstar’s upcoming title and the beloved Showtime series. Back when the game’s second official trailer dropped, players discovered a chilling coroner’s board within the Slasher Adversary Mode and special Halloween events, featuring the names “Dexter Fisher” and “Morgan Price,” a clever fusion referencing the character. That earlier easter egg fueled ongoing speculation that Rockstar was deliberately weaving nods to the show throughout the game’s world.

The connection makes sense given the shared setting between both properties. ‘Dexter’ takes place in a fictionalized version of Miami, carrying the same brooding, crime-soaked atmosphere that Vice City has become known for since its earliest appearances in the franchise. Given how closely the show’s tone aligns with the world Rockstar has built for ‘GTA 6,’ fans have long speculated that a Dexter-inspired easter egg was only a matter of time.

The latest spotting comes directly on the heels of Rockstar’s massive extended gameplay reveal, a 26-minute presentation that debuted exclusively on Netflix before generating so much traffic that it reportedly crashed the streaming platform. That same footage has already sparked a wave of other easter egg discoveries from the fan community, with users combing through every frame for hidden references, callbacks, and world-building details ahead of the game’s release.

Rockstar has developed something of a signature approach to hiding pop culture nods throughout its games, and this latest discovery fits neatly into that tradition. Whether the apartment turns out to be a full-fledged, explorable location or simply a background detail glimpsed briefly during the footage remains to be seen once the game actually launches.

With ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ still on track for its November 19 release across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, fans have just under three months to keep dissecting every scrap of footage Rockstar releases between now and launch day. Given how much attention this single apartment reference has already generated online, it’s a safe bet that plenty more hidden nods are still waiting to be uncovered once players finally get their hands on the game itself.
