The third installment of MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy saga is currently in production. James Gunn is back as the writer and director, and most of the previous known main cast returns as well, including Avatar star Zoe Saldana, who returns to play Gamora, a fierce warrior and Thanos’ adapted daughter.
Saldana debuted as Gamora in the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie back in 2014. She reprised the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War, in which her character was ultimately killed off by Thanos. Still, thanks to a time-traveling and all that mumbo jumbo, Gamora managed to return in Avengers: Endgame, but not Gamora that Guardians used to know.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, as the deleted scene revealed, Gamora left the battlefield while other heroes were mourning Tony Stark, who gave up his life to defeat Thanos once and for all. Still, the ending of the movie revealed that Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord is determined to find her and make her again a part of the weirdest family in the galaxy.
Saldana recently posted on her Instagram account various images of herself throughout the almost finished 2021, and one of them revealed the new look at her with Gamora’s recognizable green makeup.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently being filmed back-to-back with Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be released on Disney+ during the Holiday Season in 2022. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in May 2023.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is also starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, and Will Poulter, who will make his debut as Adam Warlock.
