With the debut of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DCEU era concluded, making way for Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU to take the reins. For a year leading up to this moment, it had been anticipated that the DCU would closely emulate the successful model of the MCU, featuring distinct phases or “chapters.” The inaugural chapter in the DCU, titled ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was officially announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ being the first project under its banner. However, Gunn has revealed that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will serve as the informal starting point for the new DCU.

A noteworthy development is the migration of the ‘Peacemaker’ project from the DCEU to the freshly established DCU. While ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is already in the works, Gunn has assured fans that it will be seamlessly integrated into the DCU canon. He expressed a commitment to avoiding confusion and ensuring a smooth transition between the DCEU and DCU, particularly concerning ‘Peacemaker.’

Recently, a fan inquired with Gunn on Threads about whether the show is officially included in DCU’s ‘Gods & Monsters.’ Gunn responded with a concise “Yes,” despite the show not being featured in the official release slate presented by Gunn and Safran a year ago during the initial announcement of the cinematic universe. This discrepancy is likely attributed to the current uncertainty surrounding the show’s status.

Confirmation of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2’s development came in February 2022, with a prolonged pre-production phase featuring a largely consistent cast. John Cena assumes the role of Peacemaker, an unwavering government agent devoted to securing peace at any cost. Steve Agee portrays John Economos, the Belle Reve Penitentiary warden, while Danielle Brooks embodies Leota Adebayo, a member of the Suicide Squad. Jennifer Holland takes on the role of Emilia Harcourt, an A.R.G.U.S. agent collaborating closely with the Squad, and Freddie Stroma brings Vigilante to life, a character inclined towards lethal justice. Recently, Danielle Brooks hinted at the show commencing production this year, and Gunn indicated that its release would follow ‘Superman: Legacy.’

In the inaugural chapter of the DCU, titled ‘Gods & Monsters,’ several movies are currently in the pipeline: ‘Superman: Legacy’ set for a 2025 release, ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’ Among these, only ‘Legacy’ has a confirmed release date. Additionally, several shows are in various stages of production: ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ ‘Booster Gold,’ and ‘Peacemaker Season 2.’ As of now, ‘Creature Commandos’ and ‘Waller’ are the only ones with confirmed release windows, expected in 2024.
