Halle Berry Offers Clever Reply to ‘Catwoman’ Critics Who Dismissed the Film as “Sucking Balls”:”Balls Aren’t That Bad”
Halle Berry is well-versed in superhero media, having played Storm, one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants, and Catwoman, a prominent figure in DC Comics.
Although giving Catwoman a standalone film seemed like a promising idea at the time, the movie turned out to be so poorly received that it nearly jeopardized Berry’s career.
Released over 20 years ago, the film was widely panned and failed to recoup its $100 million budget, earning only $82 million at the box office. It garnered seven Golden Raspberry Award nominations and won four, including Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Halle Berry), Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay.
Despite its critical reception, the movie remains a frequent mention on lists of the worst superhero films and continues to inspire memes.
However, Halle Berry takes it in stride. On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Berry expressed that she has a fondness for the movie and is pleased to see younger audiences rediscovering it.
I loved it. It got panned. The critics said it sucked balls. And balls aren’t that bad. What I’m happy about is that the children have found it now on the internet, and they love it, so, it’s so vindicating. Because now they’re saying it’s cool and what the heck was everybody’s problem with it, so like, I’m like, ‘I’m so brat now. […] People have the freedom to discover it on their own without a reminder of what critics said about it. Younger generations don’t know what was said back then. They discover it on their own and enjoy its merits without being mind-led to think a certain way.
The actress also revealed she’d be open to returning as Catwoman, but only if given the chance to direct the film. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
