10. Tamiya Gantetsusai

Shueisha

A boastful and skilled warrior, Tamiya Gantetsusai was known as a master swordsman in the series, with his nicknames being the Blade Dragon and the Eight Provinces Unparalleled. After he cut down the property of a daimyo, he was sentenced to death, and to avoid execution, he accepted the mission to Kotaku to find the Elixir of Life. His elemental attribute is Fire.

Gantetsusai is a skilled swordsman who is well-known throughout Japan after being hired to serve a daimyo who had noticed him. He had survived a massacre of death row inmates all with his hands tied, making him suitable to take part in the shogun’s expedition to find the Elixir of Life. Rien noticed that Gantetsusai’s ability to kill a Mōnshin after arriving on Kotaku was anything but typical for a human. Gantetsusai managed to live through the raid on Hōrai long enough to kill Tao Fa, a Tensen-level Sennin, and assist in taking down the united Kishikai of Ju Fa and Tao Fa.

9. Shion

Shueisha

Formerly known as Yamada Asaemon Shion, Shion is a former Yamada clan Asaemon and an exceptionally powerful one at that. Shion’s powers and abilities are truly enormous, and he was recognized as one of the Yamada clan’s most skilled warriors. He has great speed and great reflexes. He is strong and skilled with his weapons, as well as with Tao. The peak of his powers was demonstrated in his victory against Mu Dan.

8. Yuzuriha

Shueisha

Yuzuriha is a famous kunoichi who was exceptionally skilled and was one of the best kunoichi of her time. She is also a death row criminal who accepted to go to Kotaku to retrieve the Elixir of Life so that she could get a royal pardon for her crimes. Her elemental attribute is Earth.

Due to her criminal history and ability as a kunoichi, Yuzuriha was considered to be too dangerous to live and was simply sentenced to death. She was so skilled that she single-handedly raided Sagiwa Castle and successfully eliminated every retainer. She had the fortitude to keep her hands bound and still survive a slaughter of death row inmates. It should be mentioned that Yuzuriha was the only criminal traveling to Kotaku who was aware of the life force known as Tao, or “ki,” and could employ it fully consciously.

7. Yamada Asaemon Jikka

Shueisha

Jikka is another powerful Asaemon of the Yamada clan who was also part of the expedition to retrieve the Elixir of Life from Kotaku. He monitored the criminal Hōrubō, who Chōbei ultimately killed. He was then allowed to return to the mainland but would later go back to the island to continue his search for the Elixir. His elemental attribute is Earth.

Jikka, the third-ranked Asaemon, is unquestionably talented because the Yamada clan considers him as one of its most powerful members. He became the only person in history to have escaped Kotaku alive without encountering any risks, a feat that even the other Asaemon could manage. After seeing Jikka easily defeat the Zhu Jin-fused Banko, Gantetsusai concluded that Jikka possessed the skills necessary to become known as a God Slayer.

6. Zhu Jin

Shueisha

Like other characters on this list, Zhu Jin is another major antagonist in the series and one of the most powerful members of Lord Tensen in Kotaku. He is known as Tathātā Yuanjun, and his elemental attribute is Water. Like Ju Fa, he is gender fluid, which means that he is both male and female at the same time. When they first faced him, Shion immediately realized that Zhu Jin was too powerful to fight, although he was not alone. He has enormous strength and complete mastery of his Tao, which is why he was also close to killing Gabimaru in their fight. He is also a commander in Lord Tensen.

5. Ju Fa

Shueisha

4. Aza Chōbei

Shueisha

Aza Chōbei is a notorious criminal known as the King of Bandits. He has committed numerous crimes and was chosen as a viable candidate to go to Hell’s Paradise to retrieve the Elixir of Life, which would have granted him a royal pardon. Jikka believed Chōbei may have received up to one hundred death sentences due to his extensive criminal history. One of the Dōshi was astonished by his abilities and realized that he possessed the necessary skills to employ Tao. The fact that Chōbei was capable of defeating the Dōshi even though the latter was better knowledgeable about Tao and had gotten specialized instruction from Lord Tensen is further evidence of his abilities.

3. Shugen

Shueisha

Yamada Asaemon Shugen is a secondary antagonist in the series, but nevertheless, he is an exceptionally powerful character. He was a skilled shinobi and assassin in service of the Shogun and was the leader of the second team sent to retrieve the Elixir of Life. But when Shugen notices that the first team members are killed, he orders his men to kill everyone and everything in sight.

Shugen was thought to be the strongest Asaemon in the Yamada clan by his contemporaries. A Doshi, Lord Tensen’s student who are more skilled at wielding Tao than any human, was also defeated by him. Additionally, Shugen nearly succeeded in killing Gantetsusai despite being able to overpower the renowned and strong swordsman. In the end, Shugen would become one of only a handful of people in a thousand years to live and escape the horrific experiences Kotaku has to offer, including the creatures and the followers of Lord Tensen.

2. Gabimaru

Shueisha

Gabimaru is the protagonist of the Hell’s Paradise manga and anime. He was raised in a killing culture and is the strongest ninja in Iwagakure. Due to his lack of feeling, he is called “Gabimaru the Hollow.” He is in love with his wife, the village chief’s daughter, who treats him differently than other people. To live a regular life with his wife, he intended to sever all links with his community, but he was falsely accused and taken prisoner by his allies. His elemental attribute is Fire.

Shinobi prodigy Gabimaru has been thought to be far too dangerous to face. Growing up, Gabimaru had a natural gift that not only helped him become one of the select few kids to make it through Iwagakure’s brutal training regimes. Because of his notorious propensity for killing his targets, society perceived him as a maniacal monster. Gabimaru had demonstrated that he was more than capable of defeating his adversaries on his alone, even when outnumbered. After reaching Kotaku, Gabimaru became one of the first people in a thousand years to have made it through the island’s challenges, made it to Hrai, where Lord Tensen had formerly lived, and managed to escape.

1. Rien

Shueisha

Rien is the main antagonist in the Hell’s Paradise manga and its most powerful character, without a doubt. Rien was a Tensen-class Sennin who was the actual ruler of Kotaku, the creator of the Tensens, and the leader of Lord Tensen, all at the same time. She experimented with Tao in ways never seen before, all to revive her late husband, Jofuku, for whom she was willing to eliminate life in all of Japan. Her elemental attribute was Earth.

Being a Tensen, Rien possessed supernatural abilities that were superior to those of the Sennin that served under her and unmatched by any mortal. She was also far more powerful than the other Tensens under her leadership. Hence, Rien may be considered the biggest danger in the Jigokuraku manga. Jikka concluded that there would be no viable method to successfully defeat Rien even if he and the nine human survivors with him were to fight her 10,000 times using his particular institution, which he claims is 100% correct.
