And while the recently-premiered anime adaptation of Hell’s Paradise has become one of the season’s biggest hits, fans have, naturally, begun to ask questions about the series’ characters, their roles in the story, and their fates. Seeing how Hell’s Paradise is a truly amazing series with a lot of interesting elements, we have decided to dedicate yet another article to the wonderful world of this manga and reveal some additional information about one of its characters, a character that has been introduced earlier but who has only just now become an important factor in the series. The mysterious character in question is Yamada Asaemon Jikka, the Asamon who followed Horubo and safely returned to the mainland. In this article, you will discover who Yamada Asaemon Jikka is and what happened to them in the story.

Yamada Asaemon Jikka is an Asaemon and a supporting character in the series. At the beginning of the series, he was the 3rd Seat Asaemon, behind Eizen and Shugen, but since both of them died on Kotaku, he later became the new and current head of the Yamada clan. Jikka initially followed Horubo to Kotaku, but when Chobei killed his criminal, Jikka shook his hand as a sign of gratitude and made his way back to the mainland, being the first to succeed.

The rest of this article will focus on Yamada Asaemon Jikka and his story in the Hell’s Paradise series. Yamada Asaemon Jikka was undoubtedly one of the most intriguing characters in the whole lore, and it only makes sense that the fans want to know what happened to this intriguing Asaemon, so we have decided to compose this article. This article will contain some spoilers from the Hell’s Paradise manga, so be careful how you approach it.

Jikka never wanted to go to Kotaku, but he was actually the only character who went to the island twice

Jikka’s story started when each of the Asaemon’s stories started – at the very beginning. Although the focus was on Sagiri and Gabimaru, Jikka was soon seen among the many Asaemon present during the Shogun’s speech to the criminals and during the subsequent massacre of the criminals themselves.

He did not speak, but we found out that he was assigned as the retainer for the old criminal Horubo, who was a murderer. He was seen on a boat with Horubo and the Aza brothers when Horubo tried to kill Chobei. This was a futile attempt as Aza Chobei quickly killed him, which resulted in a surprising reaction by Jikka.

Jikka, namely, never wanted to go to Kotaku, but since he was assigned as Horubo’s retainer, he was forced to go to the island. But, since Chobei killed his criminal, Jikka realized that he was not needed on the mission anymore (the criminals were the ones who had to find the Elixir, while the Asaemon were only there to keep an eye on them) since his criminal was dead.

He shook Chobei’s hand in gratitude and decided to return to the mainland. And that is when we stopped hearing about him.

But, at one point, Jikka actually turns up on the mainland, alive and well, and he meets some of the Shogun’s officials, who ask him how he managed to return. He gives them a short version of the story, which the Shogun’s men take as an insult, but he is saved thanks to Shugan’s quick intervention and apology. So, what happened actually?

After Horubo’s death, Jikka decided to go back, but with the currents being too strong, he was forced to land on the island. After observing everything, he decided to give it another go and started sailing back to the mainland. On his way, he was attacked by a Wadatsumi, one of the powerful sea creatures.

He managed to use his skills to cut off the monster’s head and decided to take it back with him to show the Shogun and dissuade him from sending anyone else to Kotaku; he, of course, failed to do so. But he did return to the mainland safely, and although the details of his journey remain scarce, we know that he managed to come back safely.

And while he thought that he was done with Kotaku, the situation rapidly changed. Yamada Asaemon Shugen, his ally and superior, told him that not only was the Shogun not giving up on Kotaku, but he was also actually getting impatient, and because of that, he actually decided to send another team to the island, which annoyed Jikku. It quickly became clear to Jikku that the Shogun wanted to send more Asaemon there, including him and Shugen, but he wondered whether there were any criminals left to send.

This is when Shugen told him that the Shogun decided to send some Iwagakure shinobi with them rather than criminals. Sulking, Jikka ultimately went back to Kotaku, thus becoming the only character who went there, came back successfully, and then went back there again. And he will, spoiler alert, return to the mainland a second time, as he survived the Kotaku events.

Due to his exceptional skills, Jikka was actually an exceptionally useful ally of Kotaku. He wasn’t an enemy of the criminals like Shugen, and he actually participated in numerous major battles, including when he helped kill Zhu Jin after his forbidden monstrous transformation.

As we have said, he ultimately survived and returned to the mainland once more. Jikka was the 3rd Seat in the Asaemon Clan, and since Eizen (1st Seat) and Shugen (2nd Seat) both died on the Kotaku, Jikka was ultimately their successor after the events on Kotaku. He became the new head of the Yamada clan. We have to note, though, that this is only part of his story and that we will probably be writing about him in the future as well.
