Elder Scrolls are artifacts of immense power in the Elder Scrolls universe. They are the so-called “fragments of creation” that exist outside time and space. Reading one gives you insight into both past, present, and future events, and as such, they hold a vital role in several quests in Skyrim. The total number of Elder Scrolls that exist cannot be known and they are extremely rare to come upon. Luckily for us, we have the privilege of handling three Elder Scrolls during the events of Skyrim; the only thing is, after their respective quests are over, it seems like we’re stuck with them in our inventory. Let’s see how to remove elder scrolls from the inventory in Skyrim.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • You can remove Elder Scrolls (Dragon) from your inventory by selling it to Urag gro-Shub at the College of Winterhold.
  • This won’t work if you have sold it to him already, as you can only sell it only once. In that case, your best bet is to remove it with the console commands.
  • The remaining two Elder Scrolls (Blood & Sun) can be sold to Dexion Evicus if you’ve sided with the Dawnguard faction.
  • If you’ve sided with the vampires, the scrolls are stuck in your inventory unless you install the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch or use console commands.

How to remove Elder Scroll Dragon from your inventory?

Elder Scroll Dragon appears in the base game during the quests Discerning the Transmundane and Elder Knowledge. You will have to retrieve it for Septimus Signus from the Tower of Mzark. Elder Scroll Dragon is also needed during the quest Alduin’s Bane

Reading Elder Scroll (Dragon) near time-wound teaches you Dragonrend shout needed to defeat Alduin in Sovnguarde.

Once you are done with the Elder Scroll, Urag gro-Shub the librarian at the College of Winterhold will be glad to take it off your hands and buy it from you. Except this is where matters get complicated. If you sell him the scroll before installing Dawnguard, you’re going to need it again.

Elder Scroll Dragon can be sold to Urag gro-Shub, but make sure to do that only after you’ve finished Dawnguard quests as you can only sell it once

More specifically, you’re going to need it for the quest Seeking Disclosure added with Dawnguard DLC.

In that case, you can buy the Elder Scroll from Urag Gro-Shub and complete the quest normally, but if you try to sell the Elder Scroll to Urag again, you will not be able to since the scroll can only be sold once.

This is where you will have to use console commands to remove the scrolls from inventory simply type player.removeitem 0002d513 and it should be gone.

How to remove Elder Scrolls Blood & Sun from your inventory?

Elder Scrolls Blood & Sun are added with the Dawnguard DLC. Elder Scroll Blood is found with Serana, as she is holding it when you free her in Dimhollow Crypt. The scroll is needed for quests Prophet and Unseen Visions when Dexion Evicus reads it.

Serana is in possession of Elder Scroll Blood when you find her

Elder Scroll Sun is found in Soul Cairn, it is in possession of Valerica, Serana’s mother. You acquire this Elder Scrolls during the quest Beyond Death and like Elder Scroll Blood, it is used in the quest Unseen Visions and Seeking Disclosure.

Elder Scroll Sun is with Valerica in Soul Cairn

Both Elder Scrolls can be sold to Dexion Evicus after they are no longer needed for quests. But this only holds true if you sided with the Dawnguard faction. If you have sided with the Volkihar vampires, the game offers no conventional solution as to how to remove them so you have to resort to other means.

  1. If you install the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch it is possible to sell the scrolls to Dexion Evicus even if you sided with the vampires. Please keep in mind that the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch is incompatible with Skyrim Special Edition.
  2. An alternative way to remove the scrolls is to simply use console commands. You can remove both scrolls by typing player.removeitem xx011A13 and player.removeitem xx0118F9. Replace the xx with the number that Dawnguard has in your load order. For example, if Dawnguard is fifth in your load order, the code should look like this: player.removeitem 05011A13.

What do I do with The Elder Scrolls in Skyrim?

Elder Scrolls in Skyrim are exclusively quest items and have no real use beyond selling them and making some extra money. If none of these solutions work for you and they are stuck in your inventory forever, you can always use them as dispel items. Reading an Elder Scroll (no matter which one) will dispel all your active magical effects, both the good ones and the bad ones. If you use bloodcursed arrows, reading Elder Scroll will dispel that effect as well.
