Hisoka vs. Chrollo: Who Won the Fight (& Is He Really Stronger?)

Hisoka vs. Chrollo: Who Won the Fight (& Is He Really Stronger?)

Hunter × Hunter is one of those anime series, like Berserk, where the hiatuses are more famous than the series itself. And while Berserk is going forward, the future of Hunter × Hunter is still very unclear. Still, that doesn’t stop us from actually analyzing the characters of the series and comparing their strengths and abilities. In this article, we are going to compare Hisoka and Chrollo, two characters that have fought in Hunter × Hunter, and tell you who won and whether he really is stronger.

Although the difference between them is not that great, Chrollo can and has defeated Hisoka in battle. They are two very similar fighters but it was ultimately Chrollo’s Nen that made the difference. While Hisoka is undoubtedly a more skilled fighter, Chrollo uses his abilities better and has, because of that, managed to defeat Hisoka.

The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Hisoka and Chrollo in more detail. Through several categories, you are going to see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Chrollo was, in the end, able to defeat Hisoka when they fought.

General overview

Hisoka has all the benefits granted by his Hunter status. Known for his graceful, cruel and deceitful fighting ability, Hisoka himself has proven himself to be a deadly adversary. However, he would never have shown his true abilities, making him willing to fight famous enemies because of his terrifying power.

For example, he pondered that he provoked Illumi (whose strength scored 95 points, even higher than 3 Zodiacs) into having a fight to the death with him, and even longed to face Ging Freecss and Isaac Netero. Apparently, he doesn’t fight according to any traditional martial art, combining his massive physical attributes with razor-sharp poker cards, an unpredictable mind, and an insatiable thirst for kill.

By forming a circle with his index finger and thumb and looking through it, he can improve his vision. It is unclear if this is a Nen ability.

Chrollo is an exceptional fighter, being the leader of the Phantom Troupe and recognized as the strongest member by most of them. He was able to fight Silva and Zeno Zoldyck, both extremely proficient assassins, at the same time, leaving no openings in their defense, though he was unable to deal significant damage to either of them.

In the past, he survived a confrontation with the first assassin Silva Zoldyck, while currently his ability rivals Zeno Zoldyck. His fighting style is probably freestyle and combines speed with deadly precision. His high level of intelligence helps him, leaving him able to exploit the enemy’s weak points. He is capable of killing skilled warriors with just a feather, even sometimes remaining hidden with Zetsu.

When he finds himself in a difficult situation, he fights with a poisoned knife, whose 0.1 mg of toxin can paralyze a whale. However, he tends to hold back if his opponent has a skill he’s interested in, so he can steal it. Zeno said that Chrollo would have lost against him, but if he had fought seriously the result would have been different. Chrollo is also gifted with astonishing strength of mind and will, even by Brigade standards.

The greatest achievement and the greatest proof of Chrollo’s strength and skill was being able to defeat Hisoka in the Sky Coliseum, another very powerful Nen user who at the time had no history of past defeats or even proof of fighting in fights in the arena. series duration.

The general likeness between the two of them is quite visible, which is why we couldn’t really decide on the winner in this category, hence the divided points.

Points: Hisoka 1, Chrollo 1

Physical capabilities

Hisoka is incredibly strong, ranking third in the Ghost Squad in terms of physical strength. He can break rock and send a block from the Sky Arena ring flying with a single kick. He can effortlessly lift five human puppets with one hand and spin them around with enough force to destroy them and all other organs that came in contact with them.

As shown in the game of Dodgeball, he is able to catch a Nen-enhanced ball with the destructive ability of a cannonball with one hand, and launch the ball with such power that Razor’s Nen puppets are unable to stop him unless combined, though they are able to intercept Razor’s lightning-fast passage.

Chrollo placed seventh in arm wrestling with the rest of the Brigade. However, his range is excellent, as Specialists are the weakest in employing Enhancer abilities. However, his strength is enough to be able to decapitate a normal human being with one hand strike and pierce through skulls with an ordinary quill. He is also capable of lifting adult men and throwing them several meters away using only one arm and while standing on a parapet.

Chrollo’s defense is top-notch: he managed to put up a good fight against both of Zoldyck’s assassins, using his abilities in unarmed combat almost exclusively to block and dodge. He managed to engage Zeno and avoid his attacks at the last second to prevent Silva from exploiting the openings on him, keeping an eye on him the entire time.

While he was mostly forced defensively on that occasion, he also displayed incredible offensive skills when he knocked Neon out. In fact, his slash was so fast that he would have decapitated her if it wasn’t for his perfect control of her movement. He managed to fool Hisoka with a quill twice, dealing considerable damage despite fighting while he was holding the book from him.

Hisoka is better in terms of offense, while Chrollo is a defensive specialist. It cannot, though, be denied that Hisoka wins this category, as he is superior in terms of strength.

Points: Hisoka 2, Chrollo 1

Speed and reflexes

One of the pillars of his distinctive fighting style is his speed, paired with his similar surgical precision. He was able to easily grab Togari’s spinning blades, dodge Gon’s continuous attacks without moving from the position he was in, and barely avoid a ball thrown by Razor, even blocking it when it was redirected. He can take down a group of professional hunters with one hand, and dodge objects like bullets or capture them with ease.

Combined with his Bungee Gum ability, he can disappear from sight and move at speeds that even experienced combatants are unable to keep up with. Hisoka can attack from any position, as seen when he fought Gotoh. Due to his coordination, he can adapt to whatever fighting style he’s up against (an example being when he seamlessly caught the spinning blades Togari threw at him) and avoid most threats he might encounter.

Chrollo was able to fight Zeno and Silva at the same time, avoiding or guarding against their powerful attacks quite well. In the 2011 anime he disappeared and fatally beat one of the strongest assassins hired by the mafia without him noticing. He landed a hand strike to the back of Neon Nostrade’s head without anyone in the room or watching the surveillance monitors being able to see the movement.

As shown in the 2011 anime, Chrollo can catch thrown knives in mid-flight. Chrollo can run up the sides of buildings and easily jump horizontally from one to another. He also skillfully dodged many of Zeno’s long range attacks.

And while Hisoka is undoubtedly fast, it does seem that he is no match for Chrollo in this category, as speed is one of Chrollo’s stronger aspects. This is why the latter wins this point.

Nen

Hisoka’s Nen abilities have served him well on numerous occasions mostly to complement his sinister nature. They can be used in direct combat, or to trick your opponents into confusing, hesitating, fearful, or angry. Hisoka uses two versatile Hatsu that make a formidable combination. Hisoka makes frequent use of Shu to increase the offensive power of his cards and to hide his aura by setting up his trap.

Although his Ren (bloodlust) can be sensed from far away, it doesn’t seem to activate it every time he starts fighting. His Ken however is very solid, as it allowed him to survive multiple fully charged blasts from Chrollo’s Sun and Moon at close range, though he still lost a leg. While it is unknown if he is capable of using En, Hisoka’s raw sensory ability is enough to allow him to detect an expert Zetsu user.

Chrollo is a specialist, like Kurapika (when his eyes turn scarlet); that he is a combination of the other five types, but in a way that no normal Nen user can use. Chrollo’s Nen ability is called Skill Hunter which allows him to steal other people’s Hatsu to use for his own use through a book known as the “Secret of the Bandit”.

The robbery victim, of course, no longer has access to his abilities. To use one of the stolen abilities, he first invokes “Bandit’s Secret” and turns the page for the desired ability. During the use of an ability, Chrollo must turn the page with the ability on it and the book must remain open in his right hand; this means that he could only access one chosen ability at a time.

Also, the ability disappears from the book if its former owner dies. It is also unknown if his victims are able to get their Nen abilities back if the book is destroyed.

Well, Hisoka did not manage to defeat Chrollo with his Nen, which meant that the latter’s Nen is significantly stronger. This is why Chrollo wins this last point.

Hisoka vs. Chrollo: Who would win?

We could, actually, give you a proper analysis of the things we have written above but that wouldn’t really do the trick when compared with what we have decided to go with. Namely, as Hisoku and Chrollo have, indeed, fought in the manga, we thought that it would be better for us to just recap this battle and show you how it all played out, while giving some additional comments in the end.

Chrollo gets bored of the constant chase and decides to confront Hisoka in the Sky Coliseum. Both decide that the fight will be to the death, and Chrollo takes the lead, using Shalnark’s ability, to control the referee, who ends up dead after suffering an explosion caused by another ability of Chrollo.

The two discuss his new abilities and Chrollo states that Hisoka should feel honored as he has never had to use so many abilities to kill someone. Chrollo combines his abilities to control bystanders, impregnate them with explosive stamps, and hide in the crowd, while he attacks Hisoka from his blind spots, using the bystanders as a shield. Chrollo is able to severely injure Hisoka’s hand and leg, eventually managing to win by causing a huge explosion that shatters the place.

Chrollo orders Shalnark, Kortopi and Machi to check if Hisoka was dead. Although it did seem like Hisoka had died, it turned out that he was, alive. This, though, confirms what the numbers have also told us – Chrollo is the stronger of the two and he deservedly won their battle.
