Hobbs & Shaw Finally Races Onto Hulu With a Confirmed September Release Date

Jason Statham’s biggest ‘Fast & Furious’ detour is getting a proper streaming home. Hobbs & Shaw is set to make its streaming debut, bringing Jason Statham’s Fast & Furious spin-off to Hulu, with the 2019 action film centering on the unlikely partnership between Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw as they face a dangerous new threat.

The move gives longtime fans of the franchise an easy way to revisit one of its most self contained chapters. The announcement comes at an interesting moment for the franchise, which is simultaneously expanding into new corners of the streaming world while its central film saga barrels toward a finale.

Fast and Furious Spin Off Hobbs and Shaw Gets a Hulu Date

According to Hulu Press, the film will begin streaming on September 14, 2026. The confirmation gives subscribers a firm date to plan around rather than a vague window, which has become the standard for how Hulu rolls out newly licensed franchise titles.

David Leitch directed Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off that serves as the ninth film in the Fast & Furious franchise, and it was released in U.S. theaters on August 2, 2019. That release predates the pandemic era shakeup of the theatrical calendar, making its streaming arrival feel almost like a full circle moment for a film that once represented the franchise’s boldest experiment.

The plot still holds up as one of the more self contained entries in the series, according to reporting on the streaming move, which makes it an easier entry point for casual viewers than some of the more continuity heavy mainline films.

Hobbs and Shaw Streaming Cast and Story Details

Statham leads the cast, with Ryan Reynolds also appearing in the film. The pairing has stuck with audiences well beyond the film’s original release, and it remains one of the more memorable odd couple dynamics the franchise has produced.

The film centers on Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, two characters with a history of conflict, who are forced to cooperate when Brixton Lore becomes a threat to humanity. Lore is a cybernetically enhanced soldier with extraordinary strength and intelligence, as well as a deadly pathogen capable of wiping out half of the world’s population.

Statham’s Deckard Shaw had previously been positioned as an antagonist in earlier mainline entries, which made his pairing with Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs one of the more surprising swings the franchise had taken up to that point. Reynolds rounds out the cast in a supporting role that helped broaden the film’s appeal beyond the core ‘Fast & Furious’ audience.

Fast and Furious Franchise Box Office Success for the Spin Off

Hobbs & Shaw was also a major box office success, earning $760.7 million worldwide against a production budget of $200 million. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned approximately $174 million in domestic theaters and about $586.8 million internationally.

That performance placed the spin off comfortably among the franchise’s top earners at the time of its release, even without the presence of Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto, who has anchored every mainline installment. The film’s numbers helped validate the idea that individual characters within the ‘Fast & Furious’ universe could carry a feature on their own.

Critics and fans were split on the film’s tone compared to the mainline series, though its box office haul made clear that the character driven approach had commercial staying power. The financial results likely factored into the franchise’s continued interest in expanding beyond its central film saga.

What the Hulu Arrival Means for Future Fast and Furious Spin Off Projects

It is worth noting that Hobbs & Shaw will not be the only high octane arrival on Hulu that month, with other action titles joining the platform’s September lineup around the same window.

The timing also lines up with broader movement across the franchise. Vin Diesel has announced four new ‘Fast & Furious’ spin offs as the franchise shifts gears, and this will not mark the first time the franchise has had a television spin off, following Fast & Furious Spy Racers, an animated series that ran for six seasons on Netflix from 2019 to 2021 and centered on Tony Toretto, the younger cousin of Dominic Toretto.

Reports emerged in November 2025 that three different Fast & the Furious television series had been under consideration, including a prequel series focused on a young Dominic Toretto, a spin off for Roman and Tej, and a Han centered series. Ahead of the release of the final film Fast Forever, Peacock is developing at least one series set within the Fast & Furious universe.

With Hobbs & Shaw settling into its new home on Hulu and multiple spin offs reportedly taking shape elsewhere, the franchise appears to be treating its extended universe as seriously as its core saga. Which of these upcoming spin off ideas, whether it is the young Dominic prequel or a Roman and Tej team up, would actually get you to tune in.
