Although he is an important character in the series, the 28th and current Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, is nevertheless a secondary character in the Black Clover lore. Still, regardless of that fact, he is an exceptionally interesting and important character in the plot, so we have decided to explore his story further in this article. Although he is currently alive, we know that he is in the body of a child because he died at one point in the story; in this article, we are going to discuss that incident as you are about to find out how the current Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, died and what happened to him later.

Julius Novachrono, the 28th and current Wizard King, was originally killed by Patolli, who was impersonating Licht in Episode 93 of the Black Clover anime. And while he did die in this battle, Julius Novachrono actually came back to life fairly quickly, so he both was and was not killed by Patolli in Black Clover; when he actually did return, though, he returned in the body of a child because he used up a lot of his energy and could not sustain his original adult body anymore. He would go on to be the 28th Wizard King in the series.

The rest of this article will focus on Julius Novachrono, the current Wizard king in the Black Clover manga and anime, and his supposed death at the hands of Patolli in the series. We will give you all the details you need to know about the set of events related to Julius Novachrono’s apparent death and everything you’ll need to understand what actually happened to him in the series. We must warn you that the article will be full of spoilers, so be careful how you approach it.

Julius Novachrono was killed by Patolli, but he wasn’t

The story of Julius Novachrono is one of the more interesting stories of the Black Clover lore, as Julius is, in his own right, one of the more interesting characters in the series.

He is a powerful wizard and has one of the best stories in the series, which was further expanded in the recently-released Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie. Now, while we know about Julius’ history and his enormous influence on the developments in the Clover Kingdom, we also know that currently, he is a child and a shadow of his former self. But how did that happen? How did Julius Novachrono become a child after being one of the most powerful wizards in the series?

Well, the roots of this transformation have to be traced to his battle with Patolli, which started when William Vengeance gave control of his body to Patolli, who when introduced himself as Licht, one of the most powerful characters in the history of the lore.

After a brief exchange of words in which Julius expressed his disappointment with how things played out, the two actually began their fight. The events we have described above happened in Episode 93 of the Black Clover anime, titled “Julius Novachrono.” The episode premiered on July 23, 2019, and adapted Chapters 145 and 146 of the original Black Clover manga, among others.

As their battle begins, Patolli releases several light blades, which Julius intercepts with Chrono Stasis Grigora. Later, Patolli closes the gap and swings his Light Whip of Judgment at Julius, but he can anticipate and avoid each blow. Then Patolli arrives from behind Julius and stabs him in the chest.

After reversing the wound, Julius remarks that it has been a while since he last saw his own blood and explains how time magic works. Once more, Patolli tries to strike from behind, but this time Julius steps in to stop him.

Julius grabs one of Patolli’s blades and fires it back at him, gaining speed and slicing Patolli’s face as the fight goes on. Patolli is diverted when Julius attempts to detain him, but Patolli evades.

Julius points to the Wizard King as he hovers over the city as Patolli questions his grimoire and the power of the Wizard King. He says that before becoming the Wizard King, he was continuously uncertain of his identity and future. The elf then leaps into the air and releases the sealed mana, which is released so much that Julius is left speechless as he tries to restrain Patolli once again. Patolli launches the Arrows of Judgment across the realm as Julius muses about his background and his displeasure with the nobles.

He decides to keep defending the nation because he has witnessed a slight improvement in public perception of peasants. He builds a massive clock that breaks Patolli’s magic and stops it, rescuing all of the kingdom’s inhabitants. Unfortunately, Patolli punches him because he is now helpless. As Yami confronts Patolli, Julius blacks out and starts bleeding.

Julius commends Yami’s new spell and remarks on how she and the following generation of Magic Knights have developed when Patolli escapes. He muses to himself about forging a world free from prejudice. Julius considers his own shortcomings as he passes away and hands the kingdom’s defense up to Yami. His tattoo and grimoire disappear, and he has one last thought about all the magic he has been able to witness.

And this is the whole story. As you can see, Julius was technically “killed” by Patolli impersonating Licht, but the situation wasn’t straightforward. And while the adult Julius did, indeed, die, the character of Julius Novachrono did not die, and he would soon return, although in a somewhat different form.

He is still the Wizard King, and although he is significantly weaker than he was before, he is still an important factor, and his role in the series cannot be ignored. And that is why we have written this article in which we have explained everything.
