Diablo: Immortal Server Transfer: How do you change Servers?

Diablo Immortal is the latest installment in the Diablo franchise for PC (beta), Android and iOS platforms. Continuing the tradition of its predecessors it features RP-heavy gameplay with a side of action and demon-slaying. You are left to deal with the consequences of Tyrael’s action and to prevent the demons from powering up using shattered worldstone. With the new release comes loads of questions. And one of them is how to change servers in diablo immortal? How does server transfer works and is it even possible?

You can’t transfer your character across the servers in Diablo: Immortal but you can change your server. To change servers, click on the server name on the main menu screen, it should be underneath the „tap to play“ option. A separate menu will appear that will allow you to change both your region and your server.

Now that we’ve cleared up the basics it’s time to explain the process in depth. So let’s go.

Why would you want to change your servers?

In most games, the default server you get while creating your first character is the best server for you. What does this mean? It means that the default server has the lowest latency for your location, and latency is pretty important. High latency can cause issues such as lagging, random disconnects, and random freezes. The action you perform in-game can be delayed due to your terrible and slow connection.

It’s pretty evident how that might affect your overall gaming experience. Latency is extremely important in fast-paced games such as MOBAs and First-person shooters. To avoid unnecessary trouble with latency you should always pick the server in your region with the lowest latency.

How does latency work in Diablo: Immortal?

In Diablo: Immortal you get placed on a server with the lowest latency by default.  If you are hoping for servers you should optimally pick the server in a region that matches your geolocation. Currently, there are 5 regions in-game (North America, South America, Europe, Oceania, and East Asia) each with its own set of servers. You can check the server status online on Blizzard’s official pages, on their social media, and even in-game. Servers that are online are marked with a green circle.

Can you transfer your character to a different server?

The answer, for now at least, is no. You can’t transfer your character across the servers. Your character is locked to a server you choose when you were creating it. Changing servers basically means you need to create a new character from scratch, so if you have a specific server in mind to play with your friends make sure to pay attention to the server you were placed on while creating your character. This might change in the future though. World of Warcraft, another Blizzard game does allow server transfers of your characters and even charges you a hefty fee for it.

The Verdict?

While server transfer of your characters is not possible currently, that might change in the future. For now, the best you can do is change servers completely, which means you will be creating a brand new character from scratch.
