IMDb Has Just Revealed the Top 10 Shows of 2024 (So Far)
IMDb is a website where you can find info about movies, shows, and more. It has details like cast, crew, plot summaries, ratings, and reviews. People can register to contribute and edit info. It is, by farm the most popular review site of them all and is in many cases the ultimate reference point for most Internet users.
It has the largest movie database on the internet and while the ratings are user-generated, it also links official reviews and has a section for external reviewers. IMDb is by far the most commonly used reference point when movie reviews are concerned, which is why we are consulting it here as well.
Namely, IMDb has recently released its list of the top 10 shows of 2024 so far, and we have decided to present this list to you, starting with the 10th place and continuing until the 1st-placed show. We are going to comment on each of the listings and explain whether we agree or not. Brace yourselves, as there are some surprises there!
10. The Gentlemen
Coming from Guy Ritchie’s eponymous movie, the series was a real hit. It managed to combine the charm of Ritchie’s movies with a television series format to create a beloved series that was a truly refreshing moment of the year so far. We can definitely stand behind this listing, considering all the competition.
9. One Day
One Day surprised us when it made the list, but not because it’s bad, but because it was never a mainstream title. This rom-com was a truly fascinating and refreshing take that we really loved, and we agree with it being here simply because it is a somewhat marginal work that managed to beat out the competition and become one of the best series of the year.
8. True Detective: Night Country
Despite some fan backlash, True Detective came back on a high note with a very interesting case and intriguing main characters. The series definitely moved away from the Southern Gothic ambient to Alaska’s north and provided us with an exciting and interesting case. The production quality was also amazing, and we completely agree with this listing as well.
7. House of the Dragon
One of the rare mainstream titles of the year that caused absolutely no controversy at all, House of the Dragon continues where the first season left off in a great way, giving us even more interesting content to enjoy. In that aspect, we can fully stand behind this listing as well, as the series really provided us with a great second season that we absolutely loved.
6. The Boys
Despite a lukewarm reception in the beginning, The Boys continued strong and are, without a doubt, one of the best and boldest television events of the year. The fourth season was simply amazing – crazy and completely surreal – and we love what Kripke and his writers did this season, which is why everyone is looking forward to the final season of the show.
5. Fallout
Although video game adaptations have become better in recent years, Fallout managed to raise the bar even higher. While staying true to the spirit of the original game, the series managed to create an amazing standalone work that has been praised by everyone, so we are not surprised that the series made it on this list. In fact, we completely agree with the decision.
4. The Bear
One of the most talked-about events of this year, The Bear managed to become even better this season, enabling the series to become a massive hit. We can agree that this season was amazing both in terms of the plot and the character development, so we can stand behind this listing as well.
3. X-Men ’97
Disney’s animated reboot of the original series was a nostalgia fest, as the producers decided to keep the style of the original series intact. At the same time, it elevated the storyline and the characters, providing us with something new and worthy of the original series. Despite all the controversies, it was one of the best television events of the year, and we completely agree with its being on this list.
2. Shogun
This is a pure masterpiece. In every sense of the word. The story, the production, the characters, the acting… everything is just perfect. Absolutely perfect. We would have put Shogun in first place, personally, as it was truly the best television event so far, as far as 2024 is concerned. We just hope that the next season will be able to maintain such a level of quality.
1. One Piece
The One Piece anime really provided the fans with a lot of excitement this year, and the series pushed the boundaries of what anime series can do. The story was amazing, and the character development was as well, and the fans finally got everything they wanted, as some of the most important manga moments finally appeared on the screen. Is it the best event of the year? Probably not, but it definitely does deserve to be on the list.
