In what episode does Gohan transform into Super Saiyan?
The events we are talking about happened in Episode 160 of the uncut Dragon Ball Z series. The episode, titled “Cell is Complete”, premiered on October 14, 1992 in Japan as part of the Perfect Cell Saga.
In the episode, Future Trunks, Krillin, Android 16, and Vegeta witness Cell’s transformation. Everyone except Vegeta is desperate. Trunks thinks about the casualties he might bring and attempts to enter the energetic sphere surrounding Cell, which is completing the transformation. Even at the Kame House you notice the change: the sea water begins to enter the house.
Lightning and thunder surround the being and an explosion of energy unleashes the whole world. Meanwhile, in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Gohan tries to become Super Saiyan with the help of his father. The two fight and the little one shows an impressive desire. Gohan gets mad at Goku because his father is too good and doesn’t go hard with him.
So Goku is convinced and, transformed into Super Saiyan, throws a Kamehameha at his son. Gohan tries to push her back and thinks about the moments of fear of the past: against the Ginyu Squad and against Freeza he believes it was his fault, because he was not strong enough and was counting on the help of others. So Gohan transforms into Super Saiyan for the first time and rejects his father’s Kamehameha.
Immediately afterward he falls powerless to the ground. Goku wants to cut his hair that has grown too much. Cell is amazed at his new powers and looks at his body in amazement. Krillin, angry at the disappearance of Android 18, hits Cell by not even moving him. Trunks also tries to hit him but nothing happens. Krillin throws the Kienzan which hits Cell in the neck but without hurting him. Cell seems very powerful and reaches Krillin in an instant, hitting him with a kick that makes him jump away
Gohan’s Super Saiyan mode explained
Gohan reaches the Super Saiyan form while preparing with Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to achieve the results of a year of training in just one day and be able to surpass Cell who had managed to surpass the powers of a normal Super Saiyan. Goku had two objectives for Gohan, one of them was to obtain this transformation, which would help him to train more easily and the other was to overcome its limits.
Everything was very difficult since Gohan couldn’t get angry enough to be able to transform. At one point during training, Gohan gets irritated with his father and says that Piccolo is right when he states that Goku is not good for training, for being gentle with his opponent and very soft in training. After this, Gohan makes his father turn into a Super Saiyan and launch a Kamehameha at him, an attack that he manages to stop.
Thus he begins to think about his weakness, in all the situations that provoked his anger, such as the death of his friends, when he seemed to be a hindrance or was protected, unleashing his fury at once and finally achieving Super Saiyan mode.
This form would be used little by Gohan after reaching the Ultimate State, but when he performs the Super Saiyan God ritual, Gohan uses the transformation again. He also uses this phase against Captain Ginyu since due to lack of training, only reaching this phase can he against the most powerful of Frieza’s Army. He is also seen transforming into a Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball GT.
