Inde Navarrette’s Rogue Will Reportedly Appear in the MCU Before the X-Men Movie
Marvel’s rebooted X-Men lineup has already generated plenty of buzz since its cast was unveiled at D23, but fans have been left wondering exactly when audiences will actually get to see these new mutants in action. With the standalone film not arriving until 2028, speculation has increasingly turned toward whether any of these characters might make an earlier appearance somewhere else first.
That speculation has intensified around Inde Navarrette, the breakout star of ‘Obsession’ who was officially confirmed as the MCU’s new Rogue during Marvel’s presentation at D23. Her casting came as a surprise to many, given that Navarrette had previously spoken publicly about hoping to land the role of Mystique instead.
Now a new report suggests Rogue’s live-action debut could happen well before the X-Men reboot itself. According to insider reporting, Navarrette is expected to appear as Rogue in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ potentially giving audiences their first glimpse of the character years ahead of her official standalone team’s arrival.
This wouldn’t be an unusual move for Marvel, given how the studio has already used earlier crossover films to introduce legacy X-Men characters ahead of schedule. Several actors from Fox’s original X-Men trilogy, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming, are already confirmed to appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with plenty of speculation that even more mutant-related cameos could follow in ‘Secret Wars.’
Given that framework, introducing Navarrette’s take on Rogue within the larger crossover event before her reboot even begins production would let Marvel start building anticipation for the new X-Men team well ahead of their 2028 debut. It would also mirror how Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey was first introduced through ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ before her confirmed casting in the X-Men reboot itself.
Navarrette’s casting alone already marked a massive career jump for a performer who was largely unknown to mainstream audiences before her breakout role in ‘Obsession.’ Reports have even suggested she turned down significant opportunities, including a role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and multiple seven-figure offers, in order to commit to playing Rogue in Marvel’s rebooted mutant universe.
That level of career security reflects just how central this new X-Men lineup is expected to become for Marvel’s future slate. Joining Navarrette in the reboot are Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver taking on the villainous role of Mister Sinister.
If this report proves accurate, it would add Rogue to a growing list of mutant characters potentially converging within ‘Secret Wars,’ alongside ongoing speculation about other X-Men figures making appearances before their own dedicated films arrive. Jake Schreier, who previously directed ‘Thunderbolts*,’ is set to helm the X-Men reboot, working from a script by Lee Sung Jin, Joanna Calo, and Michael Lesslie.
Whether Rogue’s potential appearance in ‘Secret Wars’ ends up being a brief cameo or something more substantial remains unclear, especially with Marvel yet to confirm any details about the character’s role in that film. Given the studio’s pattern of slowly rolling out new mutant characters through its larger ensemble crossovers, though, an early Rogue appearance would fit neatly into that broader strategy.
With ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ currently scheduled for December 2027 and the X-Men reboot not arriving until May 2028, fans still have a considerable wait before either project reaches theaters. Even so, reports like this one continue fueling excitement for just how expansive Marvel’s mutant integration into the MCU is shaping up to be.
