Industry Insider Claims DCU’s ‘Lanterns’ is Very Adult and “Very Weird” Show

The upcoming Lanterns TV series will bring the iconic Green Lanterns to the small screen. This show, based on DC Comics, focuses on two popular Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, it’s set to be the third series in the DCU.
In the show, Hal Jordan and John Stewart will team up to solve a mystery right here on Earth. The show is said to have a detective-style story, inspired by the popular series True Detective. The plot will focus on their investigation as they uncover clues and face challenges along the way.
Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. They are joined by Kelly Macdonald in a supporting role.
There’s been a lot of speculation recently about who the main villain of the show might be, but the overall plot remains under wraps and nothing has been confirmed. However, industry insider Daniel Richtman shared on his private Patreon that, based on what he’s heard, the show is set to be very adult and very strange.
Lanterns is VERY adult I hear. And very weird. Take it as you will.
Originally, the series was planned to feature multiple Green Lanterns, but after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in 2022, the direction shifted to focus specifically on Jordan and Stewart. This change was confirmed in early 2023. The show is being run by Chris Mundy, who is known for his work on Ozark.
James Hawes, a director from Black Mirror, will direct the first two episodes. Filming for the series will take place in Los Angeles from February to July 2025, and the show will air on HBO. Lanterns will have eight episodes and will be part of the DCU’s larger storyline, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
