The sequel to the 2023 hit movie Five Nights at Freddy’s is officially on the way, and fans of the spooky franchise have a lot to look forward to. The new film is called Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and it picks up where the first one left off. Emma Tammi is back in the director’s chair, and the script is written by Scott Cawthon, the guy who actually made the original video games.

A bunch of familiar faces are returning. Josh Hutcherson is once again playing Mike Schmidt. Elizabeth Lail returns as Vanessa, Piper Rubio is back as Abby, and Matthew Lillard is still playing the creepy William Afton. Some new actors have also joined the cast, including Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones.

While not all the new characters have been revealed yet, industry insider Daniel Richtman recently shared something interesting on his Patreon. He said, “I can confirm that Skeet Ulrich is playing Henry Emily.” Henry is a very important character from the games, so this is a big deal for fans.

Richtman also added that the movie will have several flashback scenes from the 1980s, and in one of them, Charlotte, Henry’s daughter, dies in 1983.

The idea of a second Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has actually been floating around for a while. Back in 2018, Scott Cawthon said they might make another one, but only if the first movie did well. And it definitely did. Then, in early 2024, Josh Hutcherson confirmed that the sequel was being worked on. Blumhouse Productions made it official that April.

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is once again making the animatronics, which means fans can expect those creepy characters to look just as good, or even better, this time around.

Filming started in November 2024 and wrapped up by February 2025. In October 2024, Matthew Lillard said they’d begin filming near the end of the month, and he was right. He also signed a deal to be in three movies total, so this probably won’t be the last time we see him in the series.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to be released in U.S. theaters on December 5, 2025. Universal Pictures will handle the release.

So far, it looks like the movie will have a mix of old and new, with familiar characters, new faces, and a storyline that dives deeper into the past. Fans of the games and the first film should be in for another creepy ride.
