Insider Shatters ‘Hulk vs. Wolverine’ Hopes: Epic Showdown Likely Delayed Until Mutant Saga
The Hulk and Wolverine have a long and complicated history in Marvel comics, often going from friends to enemies many times. Both are well-known and loved characters, with the Hulk mostly working alone or with the Avengers, while Wolverine is closely tied to the X-Men as one of their most famous members.
Although both have appeared in movies, they haven’t yet had a showdown, mainly because of copyright problems. But now that the X-Men are joining the MCU, a crossover is more likely than ever.
We’ve already gotten a brief taste of what the showdown might look like in last year’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ however beyond that one short scene, fans were hoping for an entire movie that pits Hulk and Wolverine against each other.
Naturally, there is no official word on that kind of project yet, as Hulk is notoriously one of the most important MCU characters that will according to Ruffalo’s words never get a solo project. Still, we get a status update on potential Hulk solo projects now and then from industry insiders and the latest update is — it’s not happening, at least not yet.
Notable industry insider Cryptic HD QUALITY recently addressed the rumors surrounding the Hulk vs. Wolverine project in a series of posts on X.
The next Hulk-focused film is probably not going to be a Hulk vs. Wolverine movie. Instead, events in ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’ may set up a smaller fight between them, with a bigger battle coming later.
There were discussions about a Hulk vs. Wolverine film, but it’s more likely to happen during the Mutant Saga if it’s fully planned. The fight would have a meaningful reason behind it, not just for the sake of a quick cash grab.
It’s too early to share details, but this ties into Avengers vs. X-Men. We’ll likely get a tease in Doomsday or Secret Wars, and later on, there may be a full-scale AvX political-style war.
His logic is sound considering that Multiversal Saga will likely be followed by Mutant Saga with X-Men reboot on the way. There have been numerous speculations over the last few months that we will get a full-blown war between Avengers and X-Men in the future, or at least what’s left of the Avengers once ‘Secret Wars’ wraps up.
In any case, it’s an interesting premise and there is a lot of potential for a project that features a fight between two notable characters, without making it all about Hulk, in case the copyright is still in the way.
